Since the announcement of wanting a child, my wife and I have been having sex periodically to maximize our chances of getting pregnant. Eventually, we decided to stop for a bit to see if anything has happened. Soon, I started getting my suspicions that it may have worked, but I wasn't fully sure.

This morning Caitlin seemed a bit under the weather, since she was in the bathroom for a while. "Honey, you alright?" I ask knocking on the bathroom door. I then hear her throwing up, before responding with a groggy "Yeah, just a little stomach bug." I knew she probably wouldn't be able to get to her work in the Hannaford Bakery department. "Don't worry, Honey. I'll call Hannaford and tell them you can't come in today. You just take it easy today, alright?" She agrees through her nauseated groans. I still have to get to work, so I quickly get ready and leave a note on the fridge telling her that when I get off work I'll help her feel better.

One shift later I rush home, hoping my wife felt somewhat better. When I entered the apartment, I called to her to see how she was doing. She came out of the bedroom looking much better, but there was some look in her eye that told me something else was up. "Welcome home, Dear. Thanks for calling in for me. I'm feeling much better now. Dinner is almost ready." she says with a smile. "I thought I said that I was going to do that for you?" She just continued to the kitchen, "Well, I started feeling well enough to cook tonight." I knew there was no point arguing about it, so I just got my coat off and went to set the table. Dinner was relatively quiet, only a little bit of small talk. Caitlin seemed to be giddy about something, but I chose not to bring it up at the time. After we finished our meals and the dishes, she pulled me to the living room for something.

"Matthew, I have something for you. Close your eyes." she said in a serious tone. While my eyes were closed, she placed something into my hands. It felt like a pen, but still felt different. "Okay, open your eyes." I do and I can't find the words to say.

It is a positive pregnancy test. I look to my wife, and she just responds with a nod. All I can think to do is to hug her and relish in the moment. She is going to be a mother and I am going to be a father. Just as our wedding was the start of a new chapter in our lives, so is this one precious moment.
