~Slight Trigger Warning~
You stared blankly into the obscure void of your petite bedroom, the only sources of light being the thin fragment of the moon in the starless sky, and your alarm clock glowing 3:00 AM in a shaded red, blocky font. The howling winter winds shook your paned windows and animated the branches as they rasped the exterior walls of the house. You sighed, sitting up in bed in defeat, knowing sleep will continue to evade you. You swing your legs off the bed and recoiled momentarily as your toes made contact with the chilled, wooden floorboards, though you recovered and adjusted to the low temperatures swiftly. You slipped on your favorite sweatshirt and socks, before making your way out of the small room and down the stairs. There, on the couch laid your father, blackout drunk as usual. You draped the blanket over him and cleaning up his multiple beer cans from the glass coffee table. Ever since your mother's death, this had become a common occurrence. He did his best to support you, and he rarely raised his voice or lost his temper at you. Although, when he thought you weren't looking, you sometimes saw him looking at your mother's pictures, with her so full of life and joy, and tears would be quietly running down his face. It made you sad to see him like this, in such a broken state, when he used to be so strong. You gently kissed his forehead, as not to wake him, before slipping out the front door and into the night, after locking the door behind you. You had overheard your father listening to the news as they talked about a series of home invasions in your area, ending in the murder of whole families. There was no sign of forced entry, though, and officials warned to lock doors and windows. You knew it was a bad idea to walk alone at night, especially with a murderer on the loose, but you couldn't care less the mysterious person found you. Not tonight, at least. Tonight was the night, you had decided, you would finally end it.
You stood at the entrance of the ancient forest, the wind whistling in the limbs of the taller trees, calling out to you to enter their domain. You readily accepted their invitations and entered the thick canopy following the worn path by memory, your vision limited by the scarce lighting. You then veered off the clear route, towards the fallen tree you commonly relax upon on nights similar to these. You arrived at the large timber, sitting on it as you removed the capsule of tablets from your pocket. You examined the sleeping pills, bluishly tinted from the midnight blue bottle. You began turning the cap of the container, the pills rattling within before the snap of a twig prompted you to pause. It was probably just an animal. You thought to yourself and continued to twist the cap before another snap from behind you ceased your actions. This one sounded much closer, but you didn't bother to turn around. It's just an animal, and It'll leave soon. You continued to think to yourself, but now you kept still, listening for another sound to reveal the animal's location. After a silence continued for several minutes, you continued to twist the cap, finally popping open the container. You deposited all of the tablets into the palm of your hand and gazed at the ghostly white capsules. That was until you felt a sharpened blade against your throat and heard a voice stating,
"T-that's a lot of p-pills for one person."
Well, that was the first chapter! Finally, I finished it! How was it? Tell me if you think I can fix anything! Stay strong, and until next time!
