-Daya-

Every year, Gratland High would host the annual Winter Ball on Christmas Eve. The decorating committee would hang christmas lights, sheer streamers, and fake glittery snowflakes from the gymnasium ceiling. The floor would be sprinkled with glitter and tables would have winter themed center pieces. We would hire a DJ and set up blue and white flashing lights and girls would spend a fortune on beautiful dresses that they would wear for only one night.

I found the whole thing a little ridiculous, honestly. But I still went every year for my boyfriend, Fynn Parks.

Fynn is the captain of he football team and his family is filthy stinking rich (as is mine). Yep. I am dating the captain if the football team. Typical, huh?

So I was out shopping for dresses with my two best friends, Emily and Jesse. I had to find a nice dress for this dance. I wanted to wow him.

"I seriously don't understand why you go to these dances. You hate social events!" Emily was in the dressing room trying on a fitted sequined dress.

"Because Fynn wants to go. You know how controlling he is and I don't really want to get into an argument with him."

"Why are you with him?" Jesse joined the conversation as she walked out of the dressing room wearing a white, one strapped dress. The strap was beaded and the dress definitely showed off her curves.

"Yeah, he's a control freak. He rarely lets you do anything! He's a bulky and he's rude. And honestly, Daya, he scares me."

I couldn't really blame her. She was right. He's a control freak and always blamed me for everything. He can be a real asshole and scares me at times too. But I love him. And he loves me.

"He loves me, Tay. And I love him." I shrug my shoulders.

"Bullshit!" She moves the curtains aside and steps out. "You do not look happy with him and he looks at you like you're a piece if meat. You deserve better than him and deep down, you know it."

"I'm gonna go look for a dress." I ignore her little rant and walk out of the dressing room area.

"This conversation isn't over!!" She yells.

I roll my eyes as I search the dress racks. There's a lot of black and white dresses, but I want one that will stand out a little more. I want some color.

I let out a sigh of frustration because I have yet to find a dress I love and this is the last store in the mall that has them.

Just as I was about to give up, a pair of arms snaked their way around my waist. I nearly jumped out of my skin, but then a familiar voice whispered in my ear.

"I think this one would look good on you."

Fynn.

I turn around with a smile and kiss him quickly on the lips.

"What are you doing here? I thought you were out with your friends."

"I was.. but I thought I could come and help you pick out a dress." He held up a short, tight fitted, backless dress with two beaded straps.

I kept the smile on my face even though I wasn't sure about this. Yeah, it was a pretty dress but.. I didn't want to blend in with everyone.

"I will be right back." I winked at him and headed back to the dressing room with the dress.

"What the hell is Fynn doing here?" Taylor and Jesse give me a disapproving look.

"Apparently picking my dress for me." I walked into one of the little dressing rooms and closed the curtain.

"Are you kidding?" Jesse groaned.

"Nope. I will try it on, show him and buy it. I don't want to argue with him on a stupid dress."

I could tell they weren't happy about this.

I slipped the dress on and looked at my reflection.

"This is.. pretty." I walk out and show them.

"Can I be completely honest with you?" Taylor looks me over. Jesse just kept her mouth shut, looking at the dress.

"I know. It looks awful on me."

"No no no. It doesn't look awful.. it just.. it's right. And it shows off your curves- and omg! You have an ass!!"

This made me laugh. "Idiot. I'm gonna go show Fynn."

As I walk out, Fynn's face lights up. "Damn, babe. You looks sexy." He checks me out and I shift my weight awkwardly. The lady at the register was watching us.

"I think that's the one." He squeezes my ass and then walks out of the store. I cross my arms and go back to change and pay for the dress.

"Alright class, since the annual winter ball is in 3 weeks, we will be starting our dance unit today."

Each year before the ball, we start our dance unit in gym class. Unfortunately, we can't choose our partners either.

"Today we will be learning a simple slow dance. No difficult dances today, just simple steps." She looks around the gymnasium at each student.

"Arianna will be partnered with-"

The doors to the gym squeaked open and in walked Jason Williams.

His eyes land on me and he sends me a deadly glare. I return the look and mutter a curse word.

"Late again Mr. Williams." The gym teacher crosses her arms.

"Yeah, whatever." He mutters, making his way over to the rest of our class. He elbows me in the back as he walks past me and I have to keep myself from punching him in the face.

"Arianna and Jack." She started to pair people up. I looked over at my friend Brandon. I'm isually paired up with him so I start to make way towards him.

"Daya and Jason."

"What?" We both say in unison. The room grows quiet and everyone looks at us. Everyone in the school knows how much we hate each other.

"I am not dancing with this devil!" I glare at Jason. He looks at me with disgust.

"Watch your mouth Ms. Rose!" The teacher warns.

"Shit.."

"I don't want to dance with you either princess, so quit complaining." He sneers.

"I hate you. I don't want to be anywhere near you, and Fynn will kill me if he finds out."

"I highly doubt that. He treats you like a damn princess."

"Like you would know."

By now, the music had started and I was dancing with the devil himself.

"You are such a spoiled little bitch." He rolled his eyes.

"You know nothing about me."

"I'm glad that I don't."

I step on his toes with my heels and he groans in pain. He squeezes my hand in retaliation, nearly crushing it. I wince in pain and push him away.

"You're an ass."

"And you're a slut who throws herself away at a lame controlling basterd."

This got to me. I punched him in the gut but it didn't seem to do anything to him. I quickly walked out of the gym, slamming the door behind me. It doesn't take a lot for me to get pissed off.

I could just picture him standing there with a grin on his stupid face.
