Fifteen
It was becoming difficult to pinpoint what Link's overall reaction was to the revelation. He had knifed himself off me, standing for a few passing moments by my feet before he stalked towards the end of the room.
And that's where he remained for what seemed like hours but was probably a few minutes. Words had become stuck in my throat, unable to come out as regret filled me up. I shouldn't have told him. There was no benefit to be gained from the truth.
My daughter grew up without a father figure and I wasn't about to change that. I had become both the father and mother she could possibly need whilst giving her the best life possible. I was her everything.
Complications arose right this second. For one, I couldn't bare to speak to Link anymore and by the looks of it, he couldn't either. He seemed distracted already and I couldn't have that. Our lives where in this man's hand.
I slowly got up from the bed, making the least possible noises I could. I zipped up my jeans and tried to salvage some sort of modesty from my ripped blouse. I created a knot at the hem of the material, allow it to cover my open chest.
Head held high and with my chin jutted out, I strode out his bedroom.
How had I let this happen? I promised myself I would take that secret to the grave. I promised Joy she wouldn't need anyone but me. Having told Link what I did, and knowing what kind of man he was... he wasn't going to stop at this. He would want to be involved in her life. He would come down to Brighton and ruin what perfect little life I created for us. He would come and be there.
For six years I went without his presence and involvement. But now all of that was going to change. A part of me knew I wouldn't be able to shake him off now.
I reached the kitchen and made an instant grab of my purse that lay on the counter. Without thinking twice about anything, I started walking towards the door. My plan was straight forward.
Getting the hell out of this place.
Heavily footsteps came from behind me. I managed to twist the handle of the front door behind Link's heat came strong from behind me.
"Where do you think you're going?" He said, his voice so low and emotionless I had to gulp.
What feelings was he trying to hide? Didn't he know harbouring feelings could only lead to a massive explosion? Granted, I didn't expect anything less from him. Pigs would have to fly before Link would openly admit his feelings.
"I'm going to head back to the guys." I said to him without turning around.
He wasn't a fan of that. His hard hands gripped both my hips before he spun me around with a force I didn't know he possessed.
I met his gaze straight on, showing him I wasn't the least bit bothered about this new position I put us in. I wasn't going to cower away from him. I said what i promises myself I would never say. And now I was going to handle it with as much grace and power as I could.
But he stared back at me, his dark eyes capturing my own and slowly letting me see behind the mask he so carefully placed on. He looked conflicted. As though he didn't know what to do with himself or the situation.
"Before you do, we're going to pick up Joy." He said carefully, testing for my reaction.
I shook my head at him. "No, we're not."
His eyes were drawn back, the cold mask covering the whole of his face now. I wasn't a fan of this Link. Not after I saw the burning desire that covered his entire face just moments ago in his bedroom. That Link I craved and wanted.
