I'll never forget that night. It was a night nobody could ever forget.

It was December, almost Christmas. The rain was lashing down, soaking everything in seconds, including me. I was sitting on the only bench for miles, all alone by the pier. The sea water crashed against the walls and the spray washed over me like a freezing ice bath. I got up to go home. I'd been waiting for Jake, my boyfriend, for fifteen minutes now. My dark auburn hair whipped my face in the wind, making my cheeks sting even more. I pulled my hood back over my head. And that's when I heard it; a spine-tingling, gut-wrenching scream. I immediately looked all around me, but there was not a single being in sight. It carried on, and on. It frightened me to the core and I began to run. The sky was pitch black and it was getting late. The scream still continued, ringing in my ears even when it paused. It seemed to be getting louder. I panicked and ran towards the first sheltered alleyway I saw, doubling over and collapsing against the wall for breath. I listened; silence. I played the sound over in my head. It was a man's scream. That's what terrified me so much. Hearing a man scream like that is haunting. It began again. This time I could hear voices, and all were closer, louder sounds. They were coming from behind the shop I was rested at. I carried on forward, toward the voices. I had to try and help. I didn't expect to see what I saw.

I carried on to the corner of the alley, and peered round the edge of the brick.

There were three men standing in a circle around a body, and that body was of a man, in dark skinny jeans and leather hooded jacket, screaming even after he was sick. The hairs on the back of my neck rose higher, and the tears welled in my eyes. I'd know that skinny frame and outfit, those magnificent blue eyes and shocking mop of wet black hair anywhere. It was Jake. And I had to help him. My fists clenched and I listened to what the other three people were saying.

"What shall we do with him? I think I've broken his legs as much as I can!"

"Felix, we can't just leave him here because he knows what we look like, who we are."

Both men were looking at the third. So he was Felix. He seemed like the ring-leader of this. I decided to wait a little longer before I stepped in to save Jake. He shifted from his position on the ground and shrieked again. I realised that they really had broken his bones now I was looking at Jake's crumpled, twisted shape on the concrete before me. His feet were bent away from his body, and his knees were oddly shaped, and there were bones protruding through the denim of his jeans. Jake pulled himself up on his hands.

"You bastards!" He yelled. "Why have you done this?! I don't even know who any of you are! What have I done?!"

Felix just stood and stared at him for a while, a look of disgust and distain on his cruel, ugly, scarred face. Then he kicked Jake's elbow socket towards his chest, snapping the bone and tearing his flesh. The other two men just grinned and grunted in delight as Jake cried out and sobbed in pain. I couldn't see my Jake get hurt like that any longer. I had to jump in now before it was too late, before any more pain was caused.

"JUST WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!" I cried as I emerged from the darkness.

All three men jumped and turned around. Jake was rolling around on the floor, cradling his newly-broken elbow and moaning loudly, but he stopped suddenly when he realised it was me, muffling his screams so he could hear what I was saying.

"Oh look boys, what do we have here? A nice little lass to end the night with."

I looked over at the sicko that had tortured my boyfriend. "Err... that's where you're wrong dude."

The first man that spoke stepped toward me and tried to grab me. Felix was having none of it. "Leave her be Jonas. She'll be mine."

Jonas stepped toward me again. "But boss, I've done a lot of work tonight. I think I deserve to play."
