I quickly let go of the key and backed away from her. I looked at my hands, they were both dripping with deep scarlet blood.
"Oh god! What did i do!!!"
I cursed myself, in panic for what i just did. I... i stabbed my closest friend... the person that has always been there for me!!!
I wanted to cry.
I wanted to cry because of what was happening. But i knew it wouldn't help the situation at all. I cleared away what was blurring my vission and stood up. I approached her, wiping the blood on the sides of my skirt, saying "...Himari, i-"
Not even getting to finish what i had started saying, she started flickering. The light was coming back but seconds later dissapearing from her completely. Over and over. She looked like a lightbulb about to be done with its use. Not fully functional, but not gone yet.
Then the flickering stopped and she was fully glowing, having re-gained the bright light that had taken over once before. I looked to her stomach, the key still there. Minute lines of blood dripped from were it was but it remained sterdy. She began to take steps towards me, wobbling a little but the light remained solid on her.
I began to see a small black outline materialising around the key. It looked as though i had put they key in a lock.
"Maybe i have to twist it and pull out the key. Like a door???"
I asked myself in a sceptical voice, pulling at straws of possibilities made out of desperation.
I decided that it was the most solid theory i had yet to come up with so i might aswell try it.
I began backing away, my hand against the fence, guiding me so i don't fall over. Until i hit something in the fence, which shouldn't happen because the entire fence was smooth on the outside... well, as smooth as a metal fence can be.

What i hit was cold. Freezing to the touch. I swung my head around and saw one of the figures that was with Himari earlier. I stiffened. Not being able to move. I was debating running back inside the school. The things inside weren't half as bad as these things were. I was petrified. I saw what they did to Himari. And nothing was stopping them from doing the same to me.
I went a few meters back, away from the thing. Himari was very close to me now. The thing i touched was growing nearer and nearer and so was the second one of them.

Surrounded.

I had nowhere to go. Each way out was blocked by something. Then ths creature i had bumped into, grabbed my hand. It burned. The creature let go imediately after. It extended its hand - seeming a bit hesitant this time.
Yet now, it wrapped both its arms around my waist.
It started doing the same thing it had done to Himari. Turning me. There was no on else there to help. If i didn't do something right now, who knows what will happen to us. Would we stay like this? Himari started moving back. She was still in arms reach.
I streached out my hand and gripped the key. I twisted it and ragged it out of her. She became even brighter. This action caused the figure that had been holding me to let go out of surprise.

Himari's hand and ran without looking back. It felt warm. It calmed me down, knowing that when taking my best friends hand in mine i wasn't going to feel cold. It's the warmth i was used to.
We ran back down to where we first saw those things and hid behind the side of the school.
I looked at Himari as she finally spoke, "well... ummmm...."
I was about to cry, so i wrapped my arms around her and hugged her tightly.
"wow wow, calm yourself im fine now!" She reasponded.
Not being able to contain myself, i blurted out "i know you're back that's why i'm happy!"
Himi smiled at me and hugged me back.
Then a thought poped into my head and i backed away from Himi quickly.
"wait! What about your stomach!?!?"
"oh yea... you stabbed me didn't you?"
"IM SO SORRY ABOUT THAT!"
"it's fine, i know you panicked. I wouldn't know what to do in your situation either." She reasured, in a weirdly calm tone - considering what she just went through.
"i panicked... im sorry."
Himi smiled sadly at me and opened up the last few buttons of her shirt so we can check the damage. But. When she lifted her shirt, nothing. It was as smooth as her stomach had ever been. Both our eyes were wide. Startled, confused, scared. I reached out and touched the place i stabbed her, only to have her flich away
"cold!" She squeeked.
My hand hoverred in place, slightly lowered from before. My mouth first dropped then closed. As a smile appeared back on my face after what seemed like a lifetime, all that could be heard was what was described as a pleasant sound most would be lucky to hear. Laughter. And after a few seconds, so did she. She sat down next to me and lay her head on my shoulder.
"what on earth do we do now ?" She asked.
"i was about to ask you the same thing."
We sat in silence for a bit, but then i noticed something that was right infront of us. Rocks. My mind, almost instantaniously, thought back to a few minutes ago, when my hand hit one of the glowing figures while i was walking backwards.
"what if....." i satred.
"what?" She asked with a questioning tone that had a hint of concern.
"what if... we beat them. Like, as in, with the rocks-" "don't be stupid. When they touched me it was as though they melted into me. They're not solid beings."
"please. Just trust me on this. I have a feeling im right" i begged.
Himi looked down at her feet and sighed.
"fine. But if it fails, im leaving you."
She said with a smile and winked, obviously a joke.
We grabbed a brick-sized stone each. We then made some noise by hitting the school building with the rocks to attrackt them. Then waited.
Once they were both within arms reach, we lunged out at them and beat them. Surprisingly, not only did we actually get a good hit on them. But they started to bleed. Like...

humans.

Himari grabbed my arm and dragged me with her as we ran out of the area and straight to the metal fence fo attempt to climb over.

However, with our luck, the gate was too slipery and there wasn't enough foot space to climb up and over. I was starting to panic again, looking back at the figures, they were already recovering, fast.
When Himari caught my attention, "hey! I remember, there was a part of the brick wall brocken down not too far up the field. The school was supposed to fix it but i think they haven't yet.
"that's perfect!" I rejoiced.
We once again ran up the hill and made a B line towards the open space, created by an unknown accident.
Once we climbed over, we landed in the back garden of a seemingly well kept house.
"should we go and call for help ?" I questioned.
"they would probably just call the cops on us for breaking and entering" she responded.
"I don't give a fuck anymore, being escorted home in a police can is safer than trying to get home in this fucked up world, monsters or not."
Himari just watched as i approached the huge glass sliding doors leading into the house from the back. I knocked on the glass but before i could get a word out, the door slid open. It turned out to be partially cracked open beforehand and the wind that had blown past, oppened it up even more. We stepped inside and looked around. No longer being bit by the cold on our thys and arms, as well as through the already thin clothes we dared to call our uniform.
"hello!!!! Excuse us, but please we need help!!!!! We're being chased!!!!" I pleaded.

Silence.

Himari started saying something but her voice was drowned out by my own thoughts taking over; looking around the room, there's something wrong. It looks like a perfectly normal living area but something just seems... off. I can't quite put my finger on it. I don't understand why i seem to sort of sence this shit either. But speaking of that...
"shhhhh" i whispered.
"humph" she stated as i pointed at her to be silent.
"I think we should go. Don't make any noise. Just run through the front door and don't look back".

I got a bad feeling. An ominous one. One that told me; we're not alone.

With that we ran. Once out of the house, i looked up to the window, the only one seen in the front of the house. Someone was there. The silouete was muscular, steriotipically manly. This would have been fine, if all the houses on this street weren't for pensioners, old, ragged people with nothing left to do with their lives than sit and wait, either for something fun to happen. Or for death. This man looked nothing like the old people on this street.
"wow... who do you think that was ??" Himi questioned.
After a slight pause, i said in a stern voice.
"It doesn't matter. I'm almost a 100% sure it wasn't human anyway".
