My breathing had gone from a rhythmic pattern to an out of order mess. My palms were clammy and my heart was racing, Zoe gave me a weak smile as we stood facing each other.
"Ready."
God no.
"Go." I quickly put my hands up to protect my face, not sure if i should make the first attack or wait.
But it was too late, she stepped forward and swung her left arm back, giving it away that she was about to hit me.
I blocked the Punch with my left hand, bringing my right hand forwards to collide with her throat. A strangled gasp left her throat and she stepped back, grasping her throat as she tried to breath steadily.
"Continue." Liam roared, but i didn't care, after shaking my wrists a couple of times the gloves fell off and i rushed over to Zoe, who was still concentrating on her breathing.
"Are you okay?" I asked quietly, helping her take her gloves off, she nodded frantically and lent forward, slinging her arms over me, pulling me close for a hug.
"Thank you." She whispered, squeezing me closer.
"For punching your throat?" I said and she giggled, letting go and shoving my arm.
"No, for stopping." She said and i smiled.
"I coudn't carry on." I explained and she nodded, smiling back.
"I know" As much as i knew this was going to get me kicked out, it was the right thing to do. They said they were the 'police' and police have to occasionally show compassion.
"Girls, off." Liam roared.
"Alright, you can NOT do that in a real fight. Even if it happens to be family, there is no exception, you need to learn to suppress every ounce of kindness." Louis explained, his eyes burning holes in my head.
"Kindness is human nature." I piped up, meeting his blue eyes, a smirk slowly formed on his face as he shook his head.
"Both kindness, and human nature are what can kill you. You better learn that quickly." Niall snapped. Liam sent two other people up, and although my eyes were glued to the fight, my mind refused to even think about it.
I'm pretty sure that not being in an area would be so much better than being in this area. I wonder what actually happens, do you just fend for your self in some strange place? Because that would be exactly like what's going on here.
Or maybe you live with others like you, and you just live a normal life.
Which would mean there is another economy out there. We don't need to put up with being classed as one thing.
We could be what ever we want. In a place we could trust. A place where it's never the same thing every day. Where you can wear anything. Be anything, where you can be free, truly free.
"Elizabeth." Liam began, his eyes scrolling down the clipboard he held. "For resilience, strength and strategies, you are number three." He announced, taking me by surprise completely.
"Go and shower. Get ready for a meal tonight. Everyone from area five will be attending so you all have to dress smart." Niall said, and without another word i turned on my heel, walking quickly over to the showers.
--
"What number were you?" I asked Zoe, who hadn't said anything since we got ready.
"14" She mumbled.
"I'm sor-"
"It wasn't you. Don't apologize."
"You look really good." She said as she smiled up at me. I smiled a little and looked down at my black dress, it was mid-thigh and had lace covering my neck and chest. There was a gold belt, and i wore a pair of black heels with a few gold bracelets.
"It was at the very back of the closet." I said.
"How are you having your hair?" She asked and i shrugged.
"Just left down." I said, pulling at the band in my hair, letting my bright red wavy hair fall naturally. The red and black looked really good side by side.
"Me too. Come and pick me something pretty to wear." Zoe said, grabbing my arm and pulling me along with her.
"Hey look, it the little b.f.f's! Are you going to sit and braid each others hair?" A girl said, causing a bunch of people to laugh.
Zoe scoffed and tugged my arm, dragging me past them as they laughed.
"So pathetic." She mumbled as she began to rummage through the clothes. I sighed and looked back over my shoulder, the girls were no longer laughing. But they were still staring.
"What about this, it's quite cute." I said as a dress caught my eye. It was plane black, but was decorated with a fringe at the bottom, and a silver belt.
"Yeah, it's great." She said, smiling as she took it off the hanger.
"Go try it on and i'll find some shoes." I added, Zoe simply nodded before walking back over to our beds.
"Listen, you don't belong in this area, so you might as well hop on that train now." One of the girls who were laughing earlier, snapped.
"Back off. If you want to pick a fight i suggest you save it for the next test. Run along and grow up while your at it. Your in area five, we don't tolerate people like you." Harry hissed, his voice lower than usual.
The girl didn't have any reply as she just ran off, i sighed and grabbed a pair of black and silver heels, turning to face Harry, who hadn't moved.
"Thanks." I mumbled "But i could've dealt with her."
"I don't care. We have a zero tolerance policy."
"Right. Well thanks."
"You look beautiful." He said, his dark eyes scanning over my dress, before he looked back up into my brown eyes. A small smile found it's way to my lips as my face began to get hot,
"Thank you." I said, feeling my cheeks heat up even more.
"You don't deserve people talking shit like that to you."
"It's okay"
"No it isn't. You don't need that kind of thing on your shoulders, especially when your in this area. You need your head in the game at all times." He explained, i nodded and fiddled with my nails. It was something i'd always do if i was getting told off.
Which is weird because he isn't scolding me, but when he's around i'm just constantly nervous.
"I want to show you something." He began, "It wont take a second." I looked over at Zoe who was twirling slightly in the mirror, watching the dress fly about.
"Fine." I grumbled.
