"Listen Laura, this is a one way trip. That means there's no coming coming back. I can't promise that you'll end up where I want you to be, but if you do, know that you'll be safe. And I'll be there too, but not the me you know now, not the me that knows who you are, a different me, from a different time. Do you understand? It's going to hurt, but when you get there, find me, or the professor. Give them this letter and let Charles see into your mind. Don't fight him. And you have to promise me that you won't attack anyone when you get there, that's bad! Unless they are attacking you. Now quickly, we don't have much time. I wish I could go with you but it's one person only. Now goodbye Laura, and remember, Daddy loves you."

Logan stepped back from his daughter, breathing heavily. Bullet wounds riddled his body, stab wounds left pieces of flesh hanging from his arms, legs and torso. Logan, aka the Wolverine would normally be fine with these wounds, but they were not healing, and he was slowly but surely dying. Several bodies of dead mutilated children lay about him, killed by soldiers who wanted nothing more than to see all mutants dead. The only ones still living were him, his daughter Laura, and one small boy who lay on the ground gasping in pain. He was going to die soon. But the boy was determined to do something useful before going, and his powers were offered up for use to the father and daughter pair. The boy held a mutation that could send people into the past, but only one at a time. And the toll on his body, plus the wounds already inflicted meant certain death after sending only one person back through time. The decision was made quickly and the Wolverine and the boy, who's name was Lucas agreed that the young girl Laura was to be sent back in time. To a better time.

Logan embraced his daughter and held her head so she would not see his tears. He had not known her for long, but he had realized that he loved her deeply. He let her go and Laura moved towards Lucas, who held her hands close to his heart. His eyes began to glow, and she let out a quick scream, when suddenly, the girl was gone.

Logan fell to his knees in relief and collapses next to the boy. "Thank you, for saving my daughter," but the boy was already dead, a small smile on his face.

The once mighty Wolverine let out a final breath, and died.
