Giggling could be heard throughout the courtyard as two girls played. One a Queen In-Waiting, another her Knight In-Training. They ran through the open green fields, playing tag around the trees and other such things.
"C'mon Tori! You can do better than that!" The royal giggles, watching as her friend readied herself.
"Of course I can! I'm not trained to fail you, nor your—" The knight pounces before finishing her sentence. "family!"
"Ah! Hahaha!" They both rolled in the dirt, fighting to topple the other.
In the end Tori reigned victorious, grinning at the giggling Queenie.

She watches as Queenie looked up and gasped, pointing up. "Tori look!"
The redhead looks up quizzically, getting off the royal.
"Look at this tree!! It's so tall, you can probably see past the castle walls!" Queenie exclaimed excitedly.
In an instant, she rolled onto her knees and dusted her dress, heading towards it.
"Your Highness, whatever are you doing?" Tori asked curiously.
The princess rubbed her hands together, and clung onto the tree. "Hup!"
She grabs a branch, getting higher and higher.
"Your Highness, be careful!!" Tori exclaimed, heading over. "Get down, please!"
Queenie huffs, cheeks puffing. "Oh come off it Tori, it's just a tree!" She grins. "Besides, I just wanna take a peek..."
"Your parents, they'll ever be furious if any harm came your way!" The knight replied, worry in her eyes.
Steadying herself on a think branch, the royal looked down at her redheaded friend, thinking for a moment. She then lowers a hand, which Tori looks at in surprise. "C'mon Tori, I won't be in any danger if you're with me."

Tori bit her lip, nervously eyeing the hand. She looked at Queenie, and in those eyes of hers she saw a peculiar shine. It was the same, glistening gleam of adventure and courageous mischief. The redhead sighs, defeated, as she took her hand. The royal's smile widens. "Let's go a little higher!"
"It'll be my head on the line if anything happens to you." Tori replies, huffing.
Despite this, she felt a nice feeling bubble inside her seeing her princess climb higher and higher with such happiness.
As soon as they got to a high enough branch, Queenie stood up steadily and held onto the base for support. Tori does the same, and looks out at the openess of the world.
"Oh my..." Her eyes widen at the sight. The sun was soon to set, sky still blue as its light washed over the whole kingdom. The sillouhette of birds could be seen in the sky, some disappearing behind fogs of clouds. People looked like ant, walking from merchant shop to merchant shop. It was...

"Beautiful..." Tori glanced over at Queenie, and felt something inside herself stir again. Queenie's face was in complete awe, her eyes shining even more from the sun's glare. Her hair gently followed the slow breeze of the coming sunset, looking like soft sunrays. The redhead's chest tightened, she was mesmerizing.

Creeak!

The two girls blinked back to reality, the sound of a branch startling them.

Crck!

"Your Highness, the branch—!" The redhead points out.
Queenie looked down, but it was too late.

CRSH!

"Tori!!" The royal shrieked, reaching a hand out to her friend as the branch gave way.
The knight's eyes widened in horror. "Queenie!!"
Tori grabbed onto her hand, falling with the princess.

They were reaching the grass, faster and faster they fell until—

THUD!!

"Augh!"
Queenie felt arms had enveloped around her as they fell. Now on the ground, she opened her teary eyes, and gasped. The royal sat up and looked down, seeing the knight underneath her tearing up. "Tori!!"
"Ribs— ribs!" The princess quickly scrambled off her friend, kneeling next to her.
She felt tears well up again, seeing her knight lying down on her back writhing in pain.
"Tori, what did you do?!" Queenie hissed, looking down at her. Tori held her ribs, groaning in pain.
"I— I broke your fall, your Highness..." The redhead coughed, a bit of blood coming out of her mouth. "I told thee, the tree was not your smartest decision."
"You— you fool! Why woudl you do this to yourself?!" Queenie looked around desperately, and saw some of the other royal staff. "Samuel! I need some help over here!"
The staff heard, and seeing Tori and Queenie in the distance, they immediately came running.
"It's as you said, milady." The princess looked back down at her friend, who was now smiling a weak smile. "You won't be in any danger if i'm with you."

As the staff took Tori away to the infirmary for her wounds, Queenie followed quietly in worry and wonder. She held a hand where her heart was, her chest tightening. There was... a warm feeling that followed when Tori smiled at her like said, when she said those words. The princess didn't know what to do of it, only knowing it didn't feel like it was anything bad.
