"IMOGENE," I SAY.

"Hello." she sighs and looks over at Gray with a smile. "You clean up good, Easton," she punches his shoulder slightly and Gray shrugs, winking at me then brushing his fingers on his jacket.

"Well, I came to see my girlfriend. Might as well look smashing." he kisses my cheek and I giggle. "I'll be in the kitchen, I'm starving." he turns to me with a smirk and says, "I'll see you after your tutoring session. We'll continue our conversation later."

"Tell me—"

"I will." he leaves Imogene and I all alone. I rock back and forth where I'm standing and wonder what I should say. Imogene and I haven't had a conversation in years.

"Are we gonna study or are we just gonna stand here?" she shrugs. There's little time to react when I hear Didi's loud screams as she comes down the stairs, probably still giggling at her boyfriend's jokes. I turn around as Didi stops, she grips on to the staircase railing and gives Imogene a long stare.

"Imogene," Didi whispers. "Hey, you're here."

"Let's just start the tutoring thing and get it over with," Imogene grumbles.

"Oh." Diana chuckles. "I forgot we're not on talking terms," she adds sarcastically.

"Didi, Imogene came here so I can tutor her," I explain.

"Really?" Didi gasps dramatically. "The ever so smart Imogene Steward needs help with her studies? Shocking!"

"Genevieve, if you want me to leave then just say the word. If not, then please let's just start this stupid studies so we can be done with it already!" Imogene grumbles, running her fingers through her hair.

"Let's go to the dining room. We can study there," I whisper and quickly lead her into the dining area. I tiptoe to look at the kitchen. Gray has an apron on, making pancakes. "Imogene, why don't you get your books ready and we can study together in a minute. I just have to talk to Gray first," I say. Without a response, I nod and walk into the kitchen.

"Gray," I whine. "I feel something bad is gonna happen."

"Why do you say that?"

"Diana has been angry for so many years because Imogene stopped talking to her and now they're in the same house?" I place my hands on my head and groan. "They used to be best friends, what happened?"

"Calm down." he holds my hand.

"Imogene can be really scary," I say.

"I told she's not scary, she's just scared."

"You don't know her like I do, alright. When I was six, she and Diana would find gum from wherever they could and stick it in my hair. Then they'd hide and laugh as my mother cut my hair," I explain. Gray stands there, unable to speak or react. "Since you have a new acquaintance with her, why don't you ask her why she'd ever do that to your girlfriend," I whisper.

"I'm so—"

"Genevieve!" Imogene screams.

"I've to go." I scratch my nose. I immediately run back to the dining area and take my seat in front of her. She has a bunch of text books lined up for me to teach things about physics I don't understand.

"Teach me something so I can leave," she insists.

"You're so smart, Imogene. I don't think you need help. . ."

"And you know this because you know me so well?" she asks.

"No, I was just—" I breathe, feeling my heart pound against my chest. It is heartbreaking seeing my sister mop around whenever she sees a childhood picture of she and Imogene and even though the two of them were so mean to me back when we were kids, it is selfish to not bring them back together. "Why did you stop talking to my sister?"
