Kali's Flight Before Christmas

Chapter 5

After the snow storm had blown over, it was a clear blue sky again. 

Kali groaned, as she and Niko were covered head to toe in snow. But before they got out of the mess, they stopped themselves as they heard someone approaching. And it didn't sound friendly. 

Over the slope, came a wolf pack and a black wolf was leading them, who Kali believed was the leader of the pack. Kali and Niko froze, being completely still while heavily covered in snow as the black wolf came right up to them, hoping he wouldn't notice them. 

"Listen up, men" The black wolf told his pack. "For years, we've been forced to hunt and scavenge for our next meal"

"Well, no more, thanks to our new lucky charm here"

Kali soon noticed someone familiar within the pack, who Black Wolf had referred to as the 'lucky charm'. 

"Essie!" Kali said to herself in surprise, once she saw the pink poodle she had been searching for. 

She was shocked to how and why Essie ended up with a pack of vicious wolves. One scrawny wolf however, Specs, seemed to take a liking to Essie, even telling her directly that he would never eat her.  Essie found that sweet. 

Black Wolf soon explained a sinister plan he had to his pack. They were going to Santa's Fell and were going to feast on his reindeer, thinking once they did the reindeers' power of flight would become theirs. 

Niko and Kali both gasped quietly in shock upon hearing that.

But Essie then spoke up. "Ahem, Um, maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, but if you eat Santa's reindeer, don't you think he might just be a little bit upset?" she asked Black Wolf. 

"True" Black Wolf nodded, while Essie gave a relieved sigh. 

"That's why we're going to eat Santa too!" Black Wolf then proclaimed viciously. 

Niko, Kali and Essie all gasped while the wolves howled in delight, minus Specs. 

"And I'll take his place" Black Wolf laughed evilly. "Just think of all the delicious little boys and girls waiting for me to visit"

This really had Kali worried now.

"But Santa's supposed to give children presents, not eat them!" Essie told Black Wolf. 

"New Santa, new rules" Black Wolf proclaimed. 

"Next stop, Santa's Fell" Black Wolf told his pack and the wolves all started howling. 

Due to the wolves' loud howling, it blew away all the frozen snow covering Kali and Niko, exposing them to the wolves who looked confused. Black Wolf growled once he saw the kids. 

"W-We were just leaving!" Niko said nervously. 

"Get them!" Black Wolf ordered his wolves. 

"RUN!" Kali shouted. 

Niko screamed while Kali quickly got on his back and Niko took off running while the vicious wolves chased after them. 

Meanwhile~

Julius was on a different part of the trail, calling out to the kids while looking for them, until he saw them come running from around the corner but then saw the wolves were chasing them. 

"Can't I leave you alone for five minutes?!" Julius groaned to Niko. 

Julius yelped while Niko scooped him up onto his back and continued running with the wolves still hot on their tails. 

Kali looked back to see the wolves right behind them. "They're gaining on us!"

"Faster, Niko!" Julius told the little reindeer. 

"Julius, you gotta fly out of here!" Kali told the flying squirrel to fly away to safety. 

"Save yourself!" Niko added to Julius. 

"Forget it! I'm not leaving you two alone again" Julius told the kids. 

Niko continued running and soon headed inside a canyon but didn't know about the dead end and the gang was now trapped. 

"Oh no!" Niko and Julius gasped seeing their was no way out. 

"Come on, Niko! You have to try and fly out of here!" Kali told the young reindeer. But Niko was too scared to even try to fly. 

The trio then heard growling and gasped as they looked back to see Black Wolf and his pack come in from behind, surrounding them. 

"The reindeer and girl know too much" Black Wolf told the other wolves. "No survivors..." 

Niko, Kali and Julius all gasped while the wolves began closing in on them. This looked bad for our heroes. 

But just then....

"My public!" A familiar voice spoke out. 

"Huh?" Everyone looked up, surprised to see Wilma on top of the canyon. 

"My first number is guaranteed to bring the house down" Wilma stated. 

Kali and the others just looked confused as Wilma started singing, while making holes in the canyon's walls. Black Wolf growled, getting impatient with Wilma's song. 

When Wilma finally finished singing, she stomped down hard on the ground, which due to all the holes she had created within the canyon walls the ice started to crack. 

Everyone soon gasped as they realized what was about to happen. Black Wolf growled while Wilma had created an avalanche that was coming down right towards everyone. 

The wolves ran in dismay while Niko looked too afraid to move. 

"Come on, Niko!" Kali told the reindeer, getting on his back. "Run for it!" 

Niko soon ran with Kali, Julius and Wilma on his back before jumping onto a block of ice as the gang was suffering on top of the avalanche. Everyone screamed and shouted while Julius looked terrified. The wolves yelped in dismay as they were buried in the avalanche. 

Niko and the gang were thrown off the mountain by the avalanche and began sliding down the snowy hill pretty fast while screaming. 

They manged to dodge all the trees and rocks as this turned into a pretty fun ride. Niko was soon able to come to a stop while Julius went flying and crashed, but luckily the snow softened his landing. 

"Thanks again for the help" Kali smiled to Wilma. 

"I can't believe I got out of that without a single scratch" Julius said, right before a pine-cone fell and hit him on the head. 

"Well, almost" Kali said, while she, Wilma and Niko laughed at the flying squirrel. 

"Nice going, Nutboy!' Wilma laughed at Julius, giving him a nickname. 

"Nutboy?" Julius glared, not seeming to like that nickname that had been given to him by the weasel. 

Meanwhile with the wolves~

What our heroes didn't know was that the wolves were okay and had managed to get out of the avalanche. 

Black Wolf burst out of the snow, enraged. 

"The reindeer boy and human girl must be destroyed!" He declared.
