oh say

What we seem to be
What we see, what we do
Where we go, where to?

Our hearts are broken
Our loves are lost and
There's nowhere we go
Where there's some hope

"Mahalo"
"Adiós"
"Goodbye"
There's no reason to stay

But, oh say
Can you see
How happy this can be?
How many colors we can see
Far away from the enemy
Of our own, ourselves
And the pain we held

We cannot say it won't change
But we can't also pretend
That things are brighter than they are
And that we will be happy before
We realize what we want, what we are
Where we are and where we want to be
Where we'll go there's no way to know
But we can plan a few years before

The lives we live might be wrong
And the beliefs we own
Might just be a cry of hope
And nothing more

We pay tributes to the wealth
And take from others their health
The kids we don't help
And be charitable for ourselves

Nothing matters more than a good belfie
Not even your good selfie
And there's nothing on your education
That isn't contoured by a degree of corruption

But, oh say
This can't be
What the world has turned?

To be honest, the world is better now
Because at least we know what let us down
And fight against oppression while young and "dumb"

We should help each other
We should sleep
We should make our dreams come true
And not make believe
We should know the black is art
Instead of associating it to all of the attacks

My religion is not a threat
And your hatred is what terrorises, that's a fact
I hope that one day you'll understand
That differences make the world and it isn't bad

We cannot be the same
And what we say should not be in vain
We should have the strength to live, fight and flight
And have the courage to correct our errors
And begin a new life

Oh say, don't you know?
This generation isn't here to put up a show
We want to make it better
We want, most of all, to feel better
And get it together
Without having to feel restless and sadder
