"Something doesn't feel right about this," Jordan mutters into the phone, and I sigh.

It was three days later after I met with Camille on The Omega. I was currently awaiting her next instructions. She specifically told me to stand by until the perfect opportunity presented itself. I took this downtime to reach out to Jordan in a coffee shop about half an hour away from the apartment. After briefing him on everything, it seemed he was none too happy to find out about my new recruitment.

"Considering who I'm working for, I'd find it very hard to believe we could feel right about any of it." I looked around and made sure to quiet my words by holding my mug of Chai tea close to my lips.

"The way she just came out and asked you for help after only meeting her the night before. How is it possible she's recruiting you so quickly? It seems incredibly suspicious."

"She's a Peirce, Jordan. Suspicious is literally what they do."

I scroll on the mouse pad of my laptop, looking over all my notes from my meeting with Camille. As soon as I got back to my apartment that day, I immediately opened my laptop and documented everything before I could forget. There was so much, yet so little. The way Camille speaks is incredibly vague, leaving others to read between the lines rather than just saying things outright. One thing was unmistakable. "I can't ignore the way she reacted when I mentioned Logan being in charge. She was so angry, you should have seen her."

He scoffs, "Didn't need to. The audio was enough to know she was completely pissed off." Silence filled the line for a moment before he muttered, "Kind of turn me on a little, to be honest." I almost choke on my Chai and grab a napkin on the table to clean up my mouth.

"I wish I hadn't heard that." I cleared my throat, cleaning myself up.

Jordan laughs. "Sorry, my mouth sometimes does its own thing, you know. Anyways, do you think our info was wrong? What if Logan didn't take Leonard's place at the top after all?"

Maybe things weren't what they seemed to be. The way she'd reacted felt like it was personal. "I'll need more time to figure it out. But if my hunch is right, the Pierce family seems to have bad blood between siblings, and I need to figure out why."

Jordan stayed silent on the other side of the line, and I pictured him in my head hunched over his desk and running his fingers through his thick dark chocolate hair. "Alright. I'll put everything in the briefing report. But I do have to tell you, you'll need to go in solo."

"Solo?"

"You won't be able to wear your listening device. As technologically advanced as the CCPD would like to think we are, we don't have anything nearly as impressive as Pierce Industries. They'll be able to spot it from a mile away. You'll be safer without it."

He was right, I couldn't have those devices on me during this particular mission. I'd be watched closely by Camille, and the last thing I wanted was to get caught by her because I was being paranoid.
