Speechless

I rushed into the bathroom and jumped into the shower to get cleaned up. I dried my soaking wet hair and then brushed it until it was soft and smooth. I borrowed my mom's curling iron to add soft curls to my hair that bounced as I moved. There was not any nice dresses to wear so I just grabbed one of my mom's many dresses. It was a strapless, teal-colored, knee length, and sequined dress. My parents would never let me wear a dress like the one I wore as I stared at myself in the mirror. I hesitantly opened my mom's makeup bag and pulled out a palette of eyeshadow, eyeliner, and makeup brushes. I put on some light eyeshadow, hoping that it looked good. Then, I put some kind of powdery stuff on my face because I had seen my mom put it on her face before. It covered up most of my freckles and actually didn't look bad. I tried putting on eyeliner, but gave up after poking myself in the eye twice. When I was done, I had 10 minutes until the party. Luckily, the house the party was at was in my neighborhood. I put on a hoodie and slowly climbed through my window, trying not to think of how high I was and what would happen if I fell. I knew what I was doing was wrong, but it felt so right. I didn't look back once as I began the short walk to the party.

"Get back here now!" someone shouted.

They figured out I left. I'm going to be grounded for life.

I was about to cower in fear and beg for forgiveness, but then heard the same voice.

"Tommy, give me back my Spider-Man action figure! Come here now!"

I glanced in the direction that the voice was coming from and saw an older boy chasing a smaller boy around their front yard. I sighed in relief that my parents didn't find out that I left the house. I walked for a couple more minutes and then saw a large house with more than thirty cars parked around it. I know what you are thinking. She has so many friends. She must be so popular. Yeah, no. One thing I forgot to mention was this party technically wasn't for me. It was my best friend, Brittany's, birthday party, but she invited me to come celebrate with her. I took off my large hoodie and threw it behind a bush. I knocked on the door and was greeted by a young woman with long brown hair and lots of makeup.

"Hello, dear, were you invited?" she asked as she looked at my dress and had a look of disgust written on her face.

She had on such a beautiful and fancy dress that definitely showed too much.

"Um...yes. I was invited by...Brittany."

"Oh, um...let me get Brittany to make sure you aren't lying." she said and slammed the door in my face.

She totally thought I was lying. Brittany will tell her that I was invited. I waited for her to come back and tell me that Brittany told her I was invited, but she didn't come back. I waited on her porch for what felt like hours, but it was probably only minutes. I finally worked up the courage to knock on the door.

"Ugh! You are still here. My daughter already told me that she would never invite someone like you to a party like this. She gave me your parent's number so I called them. They will be here shortly and told me to make sure you didn't leave so you need to come inside."

Brittany betrayed me. I tried to talk, but words wouldn't come out of my mouth. I was speechless. 2 strong men picked me up and carried me inside. Everyone's eyes were on me as I was roughly carried to a chair towards the back of the room.

"Sit here and don't move. We will be back." one of the men whispered and went into a room on the other side of the house.

"Where is she!"

I checked the door and saw my furious looking parents. However, I knew for a fact that they would not say or do anything in front of all these people. A young man with light brown hair walked over to them and said something. I know the 2 men told me not to move, but I had to know what they were saying. I sneakily walked over to a chair closer to them and sat down.

"Linda, Terrence, I haven't seen you guys since the..." the man stopped talking because my dad whispered something in his ear. "I am so sorry for your loss." the man finished.

"Nick, don't say another word about it." my dad said sternly after he realized I was listening.

"I feel so bad for Grace. It must be so hard for her not to have her..." My dad punched the man right in the face. The man tried to punch my dad back, but my dad easily dodged it and began to repeatedly punch him. My mom didn't even scream at him to stop. She just stood there and watched as my dad beat the poor man. I was so shocked I couldn't get any sound to come out of my mouth.

"Get on the ground! Hands behind your back where I can see them!"
