Is been a while, but I had an idea so I'm back :D

Note: I know how much like Septiplier the following story may seem, but I promise you that's not intentional. Since I can't write with my old muse, platonic "Septiplier" will have to do. Again, that's just the name I'm using, but it's not a ship fic.

Warning: f e e l s (and quite a few skips even though it's short)

Darkness.

That's all that surrounded him as he tried, and failed, to propel himself back to the surface.

Down here, the voices calling out to him were too faint for specific words to be heard anymore.

Jack tries to open his mouth, only a muffled gurgle making it's way out.

His arms go slack and he begins to sink, letting the blackness fade away into nothingness.

Jack's POV

"-ack. JACK! Wake up, buddy. Please wake up-"

My breathing quickens as I slip into consciousness, barely hearing a voice calling out to me. A tightness in my chest prevents my breathing from slowing.

"Huh?" My eyes struggle to focus as I sit up, but when I feel familiar arms wrap around me, I realize I'm safe.

"Oh man, you're okay. I was so worried I was gonna lose you." Mark whispers into my neck. The tightness lessens at his words and I shakily lift my arms to hug my friend back.

"Mark? What's going on? I'm scared and I can't see properly."

"It's okay, Jack. You'll be okay."

I take a deep breath, remembering trying my hardest to believe his words, before falling asleep to him rocking me in his arms.

"Jack? Are you almost ready to leave?"

I grunt as I blindly pull my shoelaces tight, then give him the thumbs up.

"Is that tied?" I mumble. "I hope it's tied."

"I'm sorry?"

"I said is my shoelace tied?" I only raise my voice a fraction of a decibal higher but I know Mark hears me as he walks closer, probably to check.

"It is. Jack?"

"Hm?"

"What's the matter? What's got you so quiet?"

"Well, for starters, the fact that I can't frickin see."

He stands quietly for a second in front of me, hand making the hospital bed dip down a smidge. "No, there's more. There's always more with you."

I turn my head up towards him, furrowing my brows. Mark clears his throat and I can just feel his eyes drift away from me.

"There's something you're not telling me, Fischbach. You're - you're my friend! Yet you decide you're going to hide what happened to me from me. "For my safety", you tell me. Bull-flipping-shit." I cross my arms and ask Mark to get my nurse so we can leave.

"I'll tell you when we get back to yours. Promise." He tells me sincerely, patting my leg before his footsteps fade away.

I feel along the wall to try and find my way upstairs as soon as we get back to my house.

"Jack?" Mark catches me, grabbing hold of my arm and pulling me off the stairs towards the chesterfield. "Look-" He cuts himself off as he sets me down.

I drop my head to my hands as I sit.

"Wrong choice of words, got it. Do you remember anything from that night?"

"We went late night swimming in the lake." My voice is muffled, even to my own ears.

"And ... ?"

I sit straight, throwing my hands up. "AND THATS IT! I don't remember anything after we got there."

"You and Ethan had some drinks ... you really don't remember, do you?"

"Not a thing." I tear up. A soft ripping noise, then a cloth in my hand. Mark closes my hand around the tissue and I smile.

"He lost count, he told me. Ethan was passed out but the time I noticed you were missing. I woke him up and we searched. Took about 10 minutes before we noticed something in the grass on the opposite side of the lake near the shallows. Turns out Ethan was calling you and it was your phone lighting up so we took it from there and found you washed up in the brush, coughing. You were semi-conscious, seemingly just dazed and unresponsive. Put you in the car and wrapped a towel around you then took you to the hospital where you were out for two days."

It's silent for a good two minutes before he switches over to my couch and leans on my shoulder. "I really thought I'd lost you."

"But ya didn't." I attempt to lighten the mood by smiling, hoping he'd catch on but instead Mark just takes a deep breath and stands. "Where ya going?"

"I dunno, but I can't stay here. I've got Amy and the doggos waiting for me at home."

I stand as well, dizziness overtaking me but I ignore it. "Invite them over! I can't stay here alone! Not like this."

"Jack, we-"

"Mark, please! I-" I reach out and grab hold of his shirt, lucky he was there.

"I've gotta go." He rips my hands off of him and I fall to the floor on my knees.

"MARK!" The door closes and locks. As I pick myself up, car tires squeal away. "I-I need you, mo chara."

And that's that! This turned out way better than I could've ever expected and sooo many feeeeels! I won't drag this on though. Bai!

Translation for the end: "mo chara" is Irish for "my friend" :)
