"Are you excited for tonight?" My mom questioned before dropping her self next to me on the bed. I look up at her with questioning eyes.
"What's tonight?" She shook her head.
"Don't tell me you forgot your sister's engagement party, Kai."
"Okay, fine. I won't tell you." I said not meeting her gaze.
"Kailani!"
"I'm not going." I told her then picked up my phone off the dresser.
"Why not? Are you two still not talking?"
"I won't go to an engagement party to support a marriage that I clearly don't approve of."
My sister, Lexis and her 'fiancée', Ar'mon recently got engaged two weeks ago. I had my doubts about Ar'mon the second he and my sister started dating.
He was once best friends with my ex-boyfriend, Ace who told me everything about his player ways which made me fear what he'll do when he got together with Lex.
I said nothing at first because she seemed so happy with him, I didn't want to ruin that. He had proposed couple months later and for me that was way too soon.
Like how do you just jump from being a hoe to wanting to get married in less than three months?
A week after his proposal I saw him getting a little too close and personal with a waitress at my daddy's diner.
I told Lex what had happened and she started verbally attacking me. Her exact words were: "You're unbelievable, you know that Kai? You just can't stand to see me happy for once."
And it didn't stop there.
"You know what your problem is? You're jealous. For once the spotlight isn't on you and you can't take that. You're jealous because I got what you've always wanted, a great guy who decided to put a ring on it. Something you've waited for and wanted from Ace."
Not going to lie but that hurt. Bringing Ace into the situation hit the nerve but my sister was no fool and I knew she believed me. She's just too stubborn and refuses to listen.
"Lex's a big girl, ma. If she doesn't want to listen and drop Ar'mon's black ass-"
"Language!" My mom yelled before giving me a hard slap on my arm.
"Sorry. -And leave Ar'mon then that's on her."
"Well you two need to work this thing out." She said grabbing her keys and purse. "I'm going home to get ready."
She kissed my cheek and patted my jaw lightly.
"You're going to that party."
