It's Monday, and Mom is in the kitchen making us breakfast. I love the smell of eggs in the morning. Thinking that Mom making breakfast would keep her busy was wishful thinking because she still found time to pound me for not making friends, she keeps going on about how much I need to make friends, that I needed to stop being alone all the time.
" Mom, How can I make friends when I'm socially awkward? "
Rolling my eyes at her I dug into my breakfast. When I do that it makes her call me.
" Elena Rose White. "
She calls out my full name and I know she's upset. I sigh and answer her.
" Mom there is no point making friends. I like being alone."
Mom shake her head and then comes to the table where I'm sitting, pinches my nose and says
" Try. "
I shrugged before saying
" Fine Mom I'll try, but I'm not promising that I'll make any friends. "
She smiles at my answer. I was happy to because with that answer she give me a rest. After breakfast I rushed upstairs, I then showered and got dressed.
I was running late for school." Elena hurry you're running late and it's your first day! "
My mom yells from the bottom of their stairs.
" Coming Mom! "
I yelled running down the stairs to meet her.
" Don't run. "
She says alarmed. Which made me laugh.
This was different, us moving from Oregon to Seattle was a big step After dad passed. I'm even hopeful that things will be different. That I'd maybe get over my social awkwardness and be normal teen with friends.
The drive to school was to short, I'd hope it would be longer. I didn't know if I was ready. I'm mean it should be normal. I step out of my mom's car and waved good bye. And I stood and looked at the school. I read the name of the school to myself and looked around. The kids were well very welcoming, that's if you consider a cold shoulder and random stares a welcome, then yeah. I'm just gonna love Rainier Beach High School, it's great I'm off to a good start. I ignore the stares and head inside.I had hoped to find a teacher so I could get some directions. But there wasn't a teacher in sight. I looked around confused as to which direction to go.
" Need some help? "
An unexpected husky warm male voice said making me jump like a cat someone threw in water.
" Ye- Yes! "
I answered, my voice a higher pitch than my usual tone of voice.
" The principal's office is this way. "
He says, his voice did crazy things to my heart. It was beating so fast, and wild. I couldn't hear myself think.
" Thanks. "
I say walking in a total other direction, instead of where he officially pointed. There was no doubt that this guy's voice intoxicated my thoughts.
" Are sure you're okay. "
The guy asked out of concern or maybe pity. I nod not sure what to say. Which earned me a smile. I kept eyes leveled to his mouth no daring to look at his entire face.
" Let me take you. "
He offered.
I nod yet again lost for words, he seemed unnerved by my lack of concentration. We walked down in the direction he pointed out earlier. Halfway down the hall he stops walking.
