My cold, slippery hands struggled to find a grip on the doorknob, but even with my fingers almost entirely frozen in place, I manage to swing the door open and quickly shut it again. I kick off my drenched vans to the side and peel the soaked thin jacket onto the couch. I keep my arms folded in an attempt to warm up my body while muttering a string of cuss words and complaints as I walk to the kitchen.

My eyes meet a tall dark-haired figure wearing gray sweats, a white t-shirt, and a black beanie covering his head. His gaze was focused on the soapy cup that he was rinsing, until he heard me enter the kitchen.

His pursed lips curled up into a warm smile,"Hey." He greets, shaking off the extra suds off the cup.

"Hi." I say through my teeth.

"Wet for me already?" He teases, walking towards me. I roll my eyes dramatically.

"It rained harder than I thought it would." I could barely make out the sentence through my chattering teeth. His face falls slightly.

"Come here." He grabs me by my wrists, and takes my hands into his. The change of warmth took an immediate reaction as he began to blow into into my chilled hands. "Babe, you're freezing."

I gave him a look that read 'no shit'.

"Don't look at me like that." He says defensively. The way his voice cracked at the end of his sentence, pulled a small giggle from me.

"You're lucky you're kind of cute." I reply, interlocking our fingers.

"You're lucky I love you enough not to throw you back out in the rain."

"Yeah yeah yeah..." I brush him off, and lay my head into his chest. He responds by wrapping his arms around me, lightly rubbing my back. In his embrace, my body begins to relax.

"Wait for me on the couch. I'll get you warmed up."

"Okay." I sigh, forcing myself to pull away from him. Before taking a seat on the couch, I walk to my room and change into something a little warmer. I struggled changing from the clothes that clung to my clammy skin, but eventually managed to slip into sweats and one of Calum's tee shirts that was lounging on the bed.

The sound of the raining patting on the roof played like a song into my ears until the sounds dishes clattering from the kitchen interrupted the peace and serenity.

"Cal, is everything okay?!" I call out to him. There was slight hesitation to his reply.

"Uhhh yeah! Everything's fin-" His sentence cut off to more dishes clanging. "Fuck."

"What are you doing?!"

"Nothing! Just wait right there. I'll be there in like 2 minutes."

"Okay..." I say cautiously. I take the time to turn the television on and put something on for us to watch. As I flip through the channels, I find myself stationed on a channel showing The Hills Have Eyes. Not long after, Calum is sat next to me, nudging a cup of hot chocolate towards me. "Here."

I graciously take the cup and bring it up to my lips.

"Wait! I'm gonna get blankets." He quickly bounces off the couch to retrieve one. As he returns, he has in hand; one neatly folded blanket and on top of that, a scrunched up gray sweater. "Wear it." He says tossing the sweater to me and plopping down next to me again.

Instinctively, I bring the sweater to my nose and inhale his scent. As weird as it is, it's typical for any girl to do this...right? "Smells like you.."

"I hope that's a good thing because I actually decided to shower today."

"You're gross." I say scrunching my nose, but I know he's joking. His scent is almost as intoxicating as his presence, it just hits home, but nothing is better than being in his arms. I place my mug onto the floor, shrug the sweater on, and allow him to set the blanket on both of us. His right arm snakes around my shoulders as I scoot closer to him, lessening the space between us as much as possible. My legs dangle over his, while my head is buried into his shoulder. I release a sigh as I once again relax into him.

"You okay?" He mumbles into my hair.

"Couldn't be better." I smile.

Shortly, I find myself dosing off to the sound of rain and the television rambling into words that I couldn't process. All at once, I'm asleep on his shoulder.

I don't know how long I was asleep for, but I stirred from my short slumber to the vibrations of laughter coming from Calum's chest. As I pry my eyes open, I notice that Calum and I are laying down. My arm is draped over his stomach with my head still resting on his chest. With our legs tangled in each other, It looks like I'm latched onto him like a koala. The feeling of him softly stroking my shoulder up and down is such a mesmerizing feeling I almost wish I didn't wake up.

His eyes are glued on the television in which he changed the channel to watch America's funniest home videos. Laughter ruptures through his chest once again as I lazily lift my head up. His attention immediately pivots to me,"Awe, did I wake you up?"

"Hmm? Oh no, it's okay. How long was I out?" I ask hoarsely.

"Like an hour." He shrugs.

I groan and drop my head down.

"You were snoring a little bit."

"What? I don't snore."

"It wasn't that bad, but you were out like a candle. I almost took a picture."

"Oh my god."

"I'm joking." He laughs. "I didn't almost take one...I did."

I lightly smack his chest, but don't comment because I'm still too groggy to function. Without warning, he gently presses his lips to mine, not giving me enough reaction time to kiss him back.

"Your lips are still cold." He says resting forehead on mine.

"Hmm...you can fix that for me." I suggest leaning in once more, with both of us smiling into the kiss.

In that moment, I realize that this boy can bring me more warmth than any old blanket can. No hot chocolate can bring me as much comfort than him being next to me. Most importantly, there is nobody that could ever replace him. I love this boy more than I could ever hate this damn summer rain. Actually thinking about it, I kind of like the summer rain.
