A hectic thirteen minutes later, we arrived somewhat safely at the front of the school.
"You alright there?"
"Just a little queasy, first day of school jitters, you know?"
He took me by the shoulders, looking straight into my eyes.
"Look, Audrey, you'll be fine. I promise."
He enveloped me into a comforting hug and parted ways as we entered the building of the school.
Holy shit, this place is collosal.
I was surrounded by crowds and crowds of people. Seeing all this made me recall all the nervous introductions, the overwhelming feeling of fear, and getting lost. I took a deep breath.
Stay calm, Audrey, you'll be fine.
But it wasn't long before I found a Student Council girl wearing a "Peer Guide" shirt in front of me.
“Hi, you’re the new girl, right? Word travels fast around this place. I'm Vivian."
“Oh, hey, I'm Audrey. I need a little help?”
“Hold on, my boyfriend has the maps to the school. TOMMY!"
A tall Asian guy wearing the same pine green shirt and blue badge arrived at the scene.
"Tommy, honey, Audrey needs a map."
"Oh, sorry!" He fumbled through the papers in his back pocket, rapidly turning around to give me a partially crumpled piece of white paper.
"So what's your schedule, Audrey?"
She gave it a glance, her eyes turning over the words rapidly.
“Looks like you have a few classes with me. I’ll see you then!”
While searching for my locker, a large figure ran into me.
She was drop dead beautiful. She had flawless skin, further enhanced by a golden tan. Her eyes were the color of deep emeralds. Her shiny, freshly blown out butterscotch hair hung in low ringlets down to her hour glass hips. For all I could know, this girl could have been a Guess model.
Just how afraid was I supposed to be by the fact that she was bound in my direction?
“Audrey, hi! Do you happen to know where Markus is?” She clapped me in the back as if we were old friends.
How did she even know my name already? And why is she touching me?
“Sorry, I don’t know.” I shrugged.
“Aw, if you see him, tell him I said hello!”
I noticed her giving me another head to toe glance before walking away.
The teacher walked in just as the bell rang. He appeared to be in his mid-twenties, dressed in a rather clean style: blazer, white button down, slim dark wash jeans, and loafers. He introduced himself as Mr. Carson, gave a general outlook on his life and credentials, and pointed towards a neat pile of papers.
“This is the ice breaker activity I will be having you all do today, just to see who’s new to this school, besides myself of course. You may get into a neat, single file line to retrieve your paper. Once everyone has done so, I will give the signal to start.”
I got up too quickly and felt someone bump into my shoulder.
“Oh, I’m so sorry!”
I looked up into the quietly smoldering fire of his blue eyes, framed with thick, raven lashes.
“Um, I’m fine…”
I forced myself to pull away from his gaze. The guy was a total knock out.
“I’m Richard; Sorry, I’m not good with first impressions.” He gave me a sheepish look.
“I'm Audrey.”
“Are you the new girl? I have an extra sheet, to apologize for what I did earlier.”
“Sure, thanks.”
I took the sheet from him and found myself a set by the window, where I found Richard in the seat directly in front of me.
“Swap with me?”
Innocent enough. I had just finished writing when I felt a light tap on my shoulder.
“Tommy, what’s up?”
“Dude, I didn’t know you knew Richard.”
“No, I only just met him. What's the matter?”
“Oh no, it’s nothing…Don’t worry about it.”
He walked away, mingling with our other classmates, leaving me alone and utterly confused.
