I paused for a moment to think. " My name is Holly." I put the rock I had been holding to the side and patted the ground, telling him to sit. Once he got comfortable he started talking.

" Well my name is Jack, if you were wondering. Now if you are thinking that I'm going to tell you who did it think again. Plus..." Jack looked away shyly and mumbled something under his breath.

"What did you say?" I asked him. He looked back up at me but avoided my eyes. He sighed and repeated what he had mumbled, but louder.

"I said, I only saw his outline. It was dark and the lightbulb shed very little light. Only the person that was murdered walked close enough to the light." Jack hung his head, refusing to look at me.

"Wait, what! You're no use to me! How am I going to prove my innocence with that! The police would still think it was me that killed the guy!" I pushed Jack away from me and he fell over. Jack quickly sat back up again and I could tell, without having to see his face ,that he was upset.

"Fine, I'll tell you what I saw." He stared out into the darkness. We could see the sun beginning to rise and I sighed.

"Okay, tell me what you saw" I relaxed and tilted my face upwards, so I was looking up at the disappearing night sky. As I watched the stars slowly fade away, hiding behind the suns light. Jack did the same while he got ready to speak.

"The reason I saw the murder was because it had started to rain. I hated getting wet so I decided to sneak into someone's house and stay awhile. Somewhere nice, dry, and warm. The house you guys were in was the only one with an open with an open basement window. I went inside and made myself comfortable behind some boxes. I was just starting to drift off to sleep when two people came crashing down the stairs. One was an older man; he was cursing and looked really angry. He had the other person by the neck. I could only see the older man because, only he walked close enough to the single lightbulb.

By now the old man was screaming into the poor guys face, spit flying everywhere. "Talk," he said,"Talk! You're making the rest off us, your family, look like fools. You're also making everyone think you've got something wrong up there in that brain of yours. They've even gone far enough to spread rumors that you drool all the time. A family disgrace!" The old guy slapped the other guys, now spit covered, cheeks and threw him to the ground. The old man turned around, cursing, looking for something and went behind some boxes.

The other person stood up, holding something that looked a lot like a toy gun. He followed the old man behind the boxes and brought the toy gun up, above his head. After a moment the other guy brought the it back down again, hitting the old man  on the back of his head. The old man collapsed to the ground with a cry, grabbing for his head. A few minutes later he was silent and didn't move again.

The other person backed away and ran back up the stairs, dropping the toy gun along the way. I decided to leave at that point and the last thing I saw before slipping through the window was you coming down the stairs."

We didn't talk for a few minutes. I let the information sink in.'The police still wouldn't believe that I hadn't done it. I could have been coming back for the murder weapon.' I thought. I noticed Jack look at his watch and start nervously wiggling. I looked at him, giving him a curious look. He saw me and sighed,"I'm so sorry; you should go, quick, before..." Jack didn't get to finish his sentence. Suddenly sirens started to wail around us and giant spotlights flashed on, blinding us.
