She reached up to grab a book from the higher shelf. There wasn't a ladder anywhere nearby, and it was almost time for school to end. Midoriya's class finished a bit earlier than usual, so she saw it as a chance to get the book she's' been wanting for a week now. She tried reaching higher, but she could only get so far with her average height.
Come on legs! Just a little further!
But still, no good. The easiest thing right now, would be to just put her foot on one of the bottom shelves and boost herself up. The book was only a few inches within reach when she tried to reach for it. If she was careful, she could make it. God forbid she topples the whole bookcase over; her mom would flip.
She put one foot on the second bottom shelf, and slowly boosted herself up. So far so good. She reached for the book, and grabbed it. She held still for a second, before finally descending. Her foot was just about to touch the ground, when all of a sudden, the bottom shelf suddenly shifted downwards. Shocked, she lost her grip, and ended up falling down. All the books that were stacked below fell down. She landed on one of them, and ended up slipping.
With a loud bang, she fell sideways. Her head hit the ground hard, causing her to cry out in pain. After a few seconds she got up and rubbed her head. It was painful, but the pain would eventually fade away. Her ankle wasn't sprained either. But she managed to drop every book there was on the second bottom shelf, as well as mess up a few of the books that were underneath her at the time.
She thought about what excuse she was going to give. I'm in so much trouble! She was too busy overthinking the situation to hear him call out her. She snapped to her senses, and looked up at him, a blank expression on his face.
"Sorry I wasn't listening Todoroki"
He sighed, "You really need to be more careful, otherwise you could've toppled the whole thing over"
"I know, I know...", she said, embarrassed. "I know this is a bit much but can you...help me put these back up"
He looked at his watch, and then back, "Sure"
"Really! That's great- "
She had just remembered about the book she originally came for. She got up, and started shuffling the books on the floor, till she finally saw it, though it wasn't in the condition she expected it to be. Oh man, can this get any worse.
Todoroki noticed her anguish, and placed a hand on her shoulder, "You okay?"
She shook her head, "My book, it's ruined"
She held it up, the book was ripped half way on its spine. "I'm so screwed..."
Todoroki rubbed the back of his head, "If you want...I can lend you mine"
She froze on the spot for a second, and then turned to face him, "Seriously, and you don't need it?"
"I read over the notes for next week, the work isn't difficult"
She smiled, "Are you sure about this Todoroki? I hope you're not doing this just for my sake"
"I'm doing it because it's you Midoriya"
Her face turned bright red. She stood there awkwardly fidgeting with herself. "Oh Torodoki, you didn't have to. But thank you"
He smiled, "Don't mention it. But right now, you have other things to worry about"
He pointed at the books lying on the floor, "OH crap! I nearly forgot about that!"
"Let's pick them up fast before anyone shows up"
