There are a lot of different variations of rubiks cube all around the world with up to 3 layers. there are 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5 cubes.  The 17x17 "over the top cube" (available in late 2011) until December 2017 was the biggest and the most expensive cube. it costs more than 2000$, sadly, this type of cube doesn't have the WCA competition for it. A working design of the 22x22 exists and was demonstrated in Januari 2016 and a 33x33 in December 2017. chinese product named shngeshou produce all kind of cube, from 2x2 to 10x10 and so on.

There are also many variations of the original rubiks cube. some of them are made by Erno Rubiks like the mini 3x3. one of the newest variations of the standard 3x3 are the touch cube. instead of of turning it to solve it, this cube is solved by sliding a finger on top of its faces. the touch cube has a button in the center pieces such as the button to give hints, solve automatically, and even scrambled it for you. the touch cube was introduced  at the American international toy fair in New York on February 2009.

The Cube has inspired the entire category of the similar puzzle. commonly refered to as the twisty puzzle, which includes the cubes of different sizes mentioned above as well as various other geometrical shape. example are the pyraminx which shape like pyramid, the megaminx( it has 12 sides of the different color, or even the rubik mirror( it's shape is a cube but every pieces has a different shape from the other, to solve this you must make all the shapes came back to its own place and eventually form a cube again.

in 2011, the Guinness World Record awarded the largest oreder rubiks magic cube which are the 17x17 cube. it is made by Oskar van Deventer. On December 2017, Gregoire Pfennig announced that he has broke this record, with a 33x33 cube. that claim has been submitted to the Guinness World Record for a verification. On April 2018, he announced another world record which are the 2x2x50 cuboid. whether this is a replacement for the 33x33 record, or an additional record.

Since 2015, with the mass production of Icosaix, all five paltonic sizes analogic to the rubiks cube became available. besides the rubiks cube,  the tehrahedron is available as the pyraminx, the octahedron as the Face Turning Octahedron, the dodecahedron as the megaminx, adn the icosahedron as the Icosaix

Puzzles have been built resembling the original rubiks cube. for example the cuboid is a puzzle that is based on the standard rubiks cube. it has a different functional of dimensions. example the 2x2x4, 2x3x4, and a 3x3x5. many cuboids are based on the 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 mechanism. Some custom puzzles are not derived from the original rubiks cube such as the gigaminx, bevel cube, 1x2x3 and many more.
