At odds (part 1)

Ethan, like always, was lecturing me about my powers as we walked down the hallway to our lockers. On how I could control them, on how we could keep we and others safe. And like always, I didn't listen.

"You already almost killed those guys on the sidewalk last week; we were lucky Erika wanted a 'snack."

"It's not my fault they were gonna squish the cockroach," I shrugged.

He looked at me in disbelief. "Do you really want everyone to find out you have laser visions- and not to mention a dozen other things we don't know about?"

"Hey, I'm like Superman, and everybody loves Superman." He rolled his eyes.

I stopped at my locker, putting in the combination and opening it. Compared to Sarah and other Girls' lockers, mine was a mess. Trash, jackets I forgot to take home. Yet another one of my best qualities; how fast I could make something a mess.

I began to search my locker for my Chemistry book. I swore I knew exactly where I left it, but that never seems to work out for me. I tucked my blonde hair behind my ears and moved trash out of the way. Some fell on the floor outside my locker, not that I noticed.

"Jeez, Nat. You ever clean that thing? It smells like a skunk died in there." I looked over at Benny, who apparently had walked up next to me without me noticing.

"Can't smell worse than your room," I muttered, desperately looking for my book.

"Yeah? Well, that's..." He trailed off, releasing he couldn't make a comeback.

Ethan snickered a Benny frowned at him before looking down at me. Staring, of course.

Benny was the kind of guy who would flirt with every girl. No matter where they placed on the social hierarchy, he saw them all in range. For some reason, this annoyed me.

"Seriously though, one day it's all gonna fall out on top of you like the movies and you'll die." He said, grabbing my Chemistry book out of its obvious place and handing it to me.

"Thanks," I sighed, taking the book from him.

Ethan who had been texting, ran off in a hurry down the hallway, likely to meet Sarah.

Benny then took my hand and dragged me down the hallway in the direction of our Chemistry class.

I pulled back, "Benny, don't want to go." I groaned.

He laughed, "You get to sit next to the great Benny, why wouldn't you want to go?"

I rolled my eyes, "Now I want to go even less."

He looked a little hurt by my statement, which surprised me. He never looked like that when I teased him.

He tightened his grip on my hand and pulled me the rest of the way to class.

Minutes later, when we were finally sitting in our usual seats in class, Benny went about his usual antics. Those being flirting his almost every girl. He was flirting with a Mason, and everyone knew the Mason girls were easy.

I frowned, looking at him out of the corner of my eye. I felt an intense rage inside me that I didn't understand. I had the sudden urge to punch him.

"Benny," I snapped, causing him to look over at me with a distressed look on his face. "Can, you not? This is Chemistry."

He smirked. "Exactly, Chemistry." He motioned to the Mason girl who was across the classroom now, with who I really hoped was her boyfriend.

I rolled my eyes and looked back at my work, the anger inside me slowly calming down.

"Why, are you jealous?"

"What?" I looked over at him, utter confusion on my face. "Why would I be jealous?"

"Just saying, Nat." He smiled, putting a hand on top of mine. "If you want a piece of me, all you have to do is ask."

I smacked his hand, "Yeah, right Casanova." I laughed, "The only piece of you I want is the piece that will actually do classwork."

"Still a piece, that's an improvement!"

The bell rang then, and Benny winked at me before quickly gathering up his things and leaving.

I sat there for a moment, thinking. Was I jealous? I wanted to tell myself no. I wanted so badly to say that I didn't like Benny. But I would be lying to myself; and according to my Mother, I can't do that.

Pushing the thoughts from my mind, I gathered up my things and went to my next class, walking as slow down the hallway as possible. If there was anyone who hated school more than me, I was yet to find them.

To my surprise, lunch came quickly; and I found myself seated with Ethan, Benny, Sarah, and the occasional Erika when she needed something.

Sarah and I were sat next to each other, making sure not to let the boys know what we were on about. If Ethan knew, I'm sure it'd break his heart. They quickly caught on however, and insisted they be added to the conversation.

"It's... about a guy," Sarah said, warily.

Ethan looked down Benny patted him on the back, reassuring him.

Sarah looked at Ethan and furrowed her eyebrows. "Are you guys sure you want to know? It's-"

Benny nodded quickly, his full brown hair bouncing on his forehead. I loved when his hair did that.

Sarah shook her head, "It's really not a big deal, nothings going to happen anyway." She shrugged her shoulders and smirked at me. "What about Natalia?" She asked, looking at me.

Benny quickly looked up from the food on his plate, his eyes glancing between Sarah and I.
