As I continued down the dry paved road, I began to notice how dark it was getting.
I look up and see gray clouds starting to roll in.

"Shit" I mumble as I quicken my pace.

It hasn't rained here in months. Why rain now?

I then feel a drop of water fall onto my forehead. Then another.
There was still about a mile left.

'It's just sprinkling' I thought to myself.

Then out of no where, it begins to pour.

"What the actual fuck" I say loudly

After just a few seconds I'm already drenched.

I began to debate if I should still go to school or not. If I didn't, what would be my excuse to mother..?

Maybe I could say, 'I figured I would get up earlier and walk to school and enjoy the early sunrise. But then it started to pour and I figured I should just turn back around...'
Yeah, that sounds good enough. Also, it is my 18th birthday, so she can't get too mad at me, right?

I was pleased at the thought of not going to school. Even though I had a ton of papers due today. Eh, I'll make up some excuse for it. I also don't have to face my obsessive ex boyfriend, Liam. Jesus he's such a dick, and insane if I might add. A complete looney.

We broke up about a month ago, after a year of dating. In the beginning it was great. All the lovey shit and stuff. Then I began to notice how controlling he was. He never let me hang out with any of my guy friends anymore. And I don't have a lot of girl friends. They carry waaay to much drama for my liking. I have maybe 2 or 3 girls I hang with from time to time. I have about 6 guy friends.

Trust me, I'm not that one chick who's all like "omg yesss girls or so toxic I rather have all guy friends" and then she's more 'friends with benefits' then actual friends. No, that's not me. My guy friends are kinda noobs anyway. They don't think of me in that way. When we hang out, we usually play video games or go out to the movies and the arcade after.
I always get looks when we go out in public together though. Being the only girl in a group with 6 other guys does look a little suspicious to people I'm guessing.

I don't blame them though. Considering all the other girls in this town , I'm pretty sure I'm the only one not carrying an std.

I've been walking for about 10 minutes back to my house and the rain is just getting worse.
My eyes are burning do to the amount of water getting in them. Everything is blurry now.
My eyes sting like hell, and I can barely see anything. I consider looking for a car and ask for a ride. I know the chances are high of getting kidnapped though...

Right when I lean towards the answer 'no' on the whole hitch hiking thing, I see a car in the distance. I can't see it very well, but I know it's getting closer. I begin to wave my hands in the air.

'Is this a good idea? Probably not.' I think to myself

Even though I can barely see, the car starts to come into view. Only...it's not a car..?

I squint to see what exactly I'm looking at.
It's a dark figure. Tall, slim.

Is it a person..? An animal.?

"Hello?" I shout

'Fuck why did I do that? That's just a free pass to get killed.."

It didn't respond though.
Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me?
I rub them and try to get a better look, but the figure was gone.

'Huh, I guess my eyes were playing tricks on me'
I let the thought sink in until I turned back around to the direction of my house.

I was taken aback when I see a disoriented person standing in front of me. Their skin looked like it was melted to the bone. Half of their jaw was hanging by a thread. Their eyes were almost rolled back completely and their bones were sticking out every which way.

I cover my mouth with my hand and stumble backwards, falling onto the ground.

I'm assuming this is a girl? Due to the amount of black hair over her face. My eyes grow wide with fear in them, as I watch the girl fall to the ground and begins to crawl towards me. But the way she's crawling...it's straight out of a horror movie... I can hear her bones snapping with every move she makes.

I'm in shock. I want to run for my life but I can no longer move. I stay huddle up on the ground and my breathing increases.

'Is this it? Is this the end?'

A tear glides down my cheek as I think those lingering questions.

The girl is now just a few inches away from my face. The smell of her rotting body makes me want to gag. She's definitely not alive. But how?

She then grabs ahold of my neck tightly.
My face turns red. I scratch at her hands that grip me so. It does no good. I begin to feel light head. But then, I hear her say something..
"He's too late"
My thoughts run wild.
'He? Who is he?' I wonder.
She then picks me up by the throat and throws me into a tree. I grunt as my back slams into it and I gasp for air.

I look up to see her staring...
"Who is, he...?" I ask with the little amount of air I have.

"Your protector....he is too late!" She screams.
I'm surprised I can understand what she's saying due to her jaw being practically gone.

"My....my protector..?" I whisper confused

'What is she talking about?'
I begin to get even dizzier. Thousands of questions filling my mind.

The girl begins to laugh...an evil laugh. So evil it makes me shiver.

She continues to laugh, then stops.
Her eyes pierce into mine.

She then screams and charges at me.

I cover my face with my hands. Soaking in the last few seconds of life.

As what I imagine to be pain and suffering..There is nothing.
The screaming stopped.

I slowly uncover my eyes to see nothing in front of me. My body trembles. I slowly look over to my right. And what I see is unfathomable. I see a man, ripping the girl into pieces. Her legs are on either side of the road. The girl screech's, clawing at the mans face. But he isn't fazed by it at all. Suddenly, he stands up, and bashes her head in with his foot. Everything would be silent if it wasn't for my rapid breathing.

The man slowly turns around. His face is covered in gashes. Dark brown hair and eyes. He's tall, kind of muscular. He looks around my age, maybe older. His eyes scan over my body, quickly noticing the cuts and bruises. Then his eyes meet mine.

Who was this man? And why did he save me?

I was suddenly snapped out of my thoughts when I noticed the man slowly approaching me. I quickly stumbled backwards. Was he going to hurt me too? Could I trust him? At this point, I can't trust anyone.

He stops when he notices my sudden fear.

"It's okay.." he whispers

"It's okay?? This demonic looking thing tried to kill me! Certainly nothing is okay!" I ramble on

The man then appears right in front of me.
I gasp. How did he do that??

"S-stay away from me!" I yell while covering my face.

I then feel cold hands gently grip both of my wrists. He slowly pulls them down, away from my face.

His face is so close to me now. Our noses almost touching.

"No harm." He says softly

Why is he speaking like he barley knows how to?

"Who..who are you..?" I stuttered quietly.

The man brushes back a piece of my hair, revealing a deep cut on the right side of my face. He then waved his hand over the cut, healing it.

I didn't say a word.

"Protector..." He whispers before getting up and walking away into the darkness.
