A single ray of sunlight peeks through a crack at the edge of the blind, landing on my face and burning my skin a bit. I sit up and the sunlight falls away from my face, but another glint of light caught my eye. I looked down at the red diamond shining on my ring finger. There was a metal skull on either side of the diamond but other than that it was a pretty simple ring. I still hadn't gotten used to seeing it there, and that's what I'm looking at as the last bit of sunlight falls below the horizon.
I looked over at Marshall's sleeping face and smiled. We had become so close over the past year. Next month we were getting married. It had all gone by so fast and it was hard to believe. I was only 1,207 years old and already getting married. I always thought I'd wait till I was older, and spend my youth free but with Marshall.. I'm more free than I've ever been before.
I leaned down and pressed my lips to his, pulling away when I felt him stir. His blood red eyes slowly opened and looked up into mine. A smile crept onto my face and he mirrored it, his pointed teeth sticking out slightly farther than mine did.
He reached up and in one hand motion brushed a strand of hair behind my ear and ran a finger along my jawline, guiding my lips to his which he met with a soft but passionate kiss that left me breathless. When I pulled away I didn't open my eyes right away, and when I did I found that I was alone. "Marshall?" I asked, and then suddenly his strong arms were wrapped around my waist and I let out a yelp in surprise. He laughed and leaned over, kissing me just behind my ear.
"So, what kind of fantastic mischief does my queen want to get into on this most lovely night?" he asked as he picked me up bridal style and carried me down the stairs.
"Hmmm..." I wonder. "It's karaoke night at the broken fang. Could be fun." I say with a shrug.
He nods and heads for the kitchen while I float out of his arms to the counter across the room. He opens the fridge and tosses me an apple, taking another for himself. "That sounds absolutely fantastic," he said with a grin.
"What's up with you and that word today," I tease.
"What, fantastic? It's a marvelous word. It's absolutely... What's the word I'm looking for? Fantastic!"
I laugh and toss my now gray apple out the window. Marshall does the same and we head back upstairs to get changed. I throw on some shorts over some black ripped up tights with a pair of black knee high converse and a black tank top with my favorite band logo and rips all down the back. Marshall goes with a pair of jeans, a flannel over a black tank top and a pair of red converse, and I grab my axe base and we head out to the broken fang.
When we got there it was still kind of early so there weren't too many people there. We sat down at the bar and were greeted by Thane, the bartender and one of the toughest guys I know. I nodded at him. "Sup bra," I said.
"Hey, Marceline," he said with a grin. "Where've you been lurking? Haven't seen you 'round these parts for a while."
"Well, new boyfriend. Fiancé actually," I say showing him the ring. "Lately we've been staying in most nights."
He raised his eyebrows, looked over at Marshall, and then looked back to me and let out a loud laugh making me blush in embarrassment. Looking back to Marshall he holds out his hand, which he shakes. "The names Thane," he said.
"Marshall Lee."
"You're a lucky man Marshall Lee. Better treat this one right. You hurt her and you'll have hell to pay," he said, suddenly serious.
Thane was sort of like an older brother to me. He found me when I stumbled into Ooo, still drunk and delirious from the last disaster of a town I lived in. He took me from the park bench I'd fallen asleep on and let me sleep in his bed. Ever since then he'd been looking out for me.
.
"Leave him alone, man," I say with a grin and punch him playfully in the arm. We stayed there talking for a few hours, laughing at stories of all the messes he'd gotten me out of.After a while I see Scarlett walk through the the doors with mason and had a fun little idea. I run over to her, dragging Marshall behind me. I grab them both and pull them up to the little platform for performers. I told her the song I wanted to sing and she nodded and sat down at the piano, and Mason sat at the drum set. I step up to the microphone with Marshall and toss him the base, which I hook up to an amp. I lean into the mic. "Hi everyone, I know you're supposed to use the karaoke machine but we're gonna go a step further than that. Hope you enjoy." I say and Scarlett starts on the piano. The boys don't know what song were singing, but they catch on pretty quickly. It's one we all know.
How can you see into my eyes, like open doors
Leading you down into my core
Where I've become so numb, without a soul
My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home(Wake me up) wake me up inside (I can't wake up)
wake me up inside (save me)
call my name and save me from the dark (wake me up)
Bid my blood to run (I can't wake up)
Before I come undone (save me)
Save me from the nothing I've becomeNow that I know what I'm without
You can't just leave me
Breathe into me and make me real, bring me to life(Wake me up) wake me up inside (I can't wake up)
wake me up inside (save me)
call my name and save me from the dark (wake me up)
Bid my blood to run (I can't wake up)
Before I come undone (save me)
Save me from the nothing I've becomeBring me to life (I've been living a lie,
There's nothing inside) bring me to lifeFrozen inside without your touch
Without your love, darling
Only you are the life among the dead(All this time, I can't believe I couldn't see
Kept in the dark, but you were there in front of me)I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
I've got to open my eyes to everything(Without a thought, without a voice, without a soul )
Don't let me die here
(There must be something wrong) bring me to life(Wake me up) wake me up inside (I can't wake up)
wake me up inside (save me)
call my name and save me from the dark (wake me up)
Bid my blood to run (I can't wake up)
Before I come undone (save me)
Save me from the nothing I've becomeBring me to life (I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside)
Bring me to lifeWhen we finish we sit down at the bar and get some drinks. We laugh and talk over beers for a while, and then Scar suggests we head to her place to play some video games. We're walking back to her house when were stopped by this short, fat little vampire with a top hat and monocle. He pulled out a scroll and unrolled it, clearing his throat before reading it.
"Marceline Abadeer, Queen of the vampires. Your presence has been requested in the nightosphere by the king himself tomorrow night in the royal palace." Without another word he rolled up his scroll, turned and left leaving us all shocked and confused.
