"Are you sure this is a good idea Marceline? I mean, I know he's your father and all but we can't forget about the time he tried to force you into taking over as ruler of the nightosphere with that stupid necklace thing, what if he tries to pull something like that again?" Marshall Lee stood leaning against the doorframe, his arms folded over his chest.
My suitcase lie open on the bed, half full and I was in the closet tossing pieces of clothing onto the floor and bed. "Don't worry Marshall, I'm not falling for that one again. I'll be fine."
"At least let me come with you.." The worry in his voice made me turn to him. I walked over to him, lying the shirt in my hand down on the bed before wrapping my arms around his neck.
I pressed my lips to his ear and whispered "I'm going to be fine Marshall, really. It's just a trip to visit my family, they're nothing I can't handle."
"I know that Marcy..."
I pulled back a bit to look him in the eyes. "It's just for three days. I'll be back before you know it." I smiled to reassure him but his face remained glum.
Suddenly a sly smile crept across my lips and I knew exactly how to cheer him up. Before he could realize what was happening I had him on the ground laughing and squirming as I tickled his sides. As I had expected, he didn't last very long before he surrendered.
"Fine, go to the nightosphere," he said smiling. "It's not like I can stop you."
I smiled and hugged him, and then went back to packing. "I knew you'd come around eventually."
Marshall stuck his tongue out at me and I laughed, returning the gesture. I fliped the lid of my suitcase over and zipped it up. "All packed."
Marshall retrieved the bug milk and a marker for drawing the happy face and we went outside where we had a wooden platform set up for exactly this purpose. After drawing the face I doused it with the milk. Together we changed "Maloso vobiscum et cum spiritum!" and the portal opened.
As I stepped inside and in an instant I realized that something was very wrong. My luggage dropped to the floor and I turned back to the portal. "MARSHAALL," I screamed, my arms outstretched toward him. I saw the fear register on his face but it was too late. The portal snapped shut and I was trapped.
