I run to the classroom in a hurry. A few kids crash into me. "Watch out nerd." One of them say. "Hey you! I am not a nerd. I am smart." I whisper. Okay Samantha, stop trying to be like that. I pick up my binder and book and walk to the classroom. We have exams today. "This may be a humongous regret but I am pairing you up with partners." Mrs.Blackman says. She hits a boy's desk. The boy's name is Peyton. I kind of like him. I bite my lip to clear out the thought. "Peyton you are with..Shelby." She points at one of the front row desks. Shelby is rich. Her parents are BIG TIME directors. "And..Samantha you are with.. Lamar." She points at a back row. He is the captain of the football team. He mutters something and makes his way over to me.
I laugh softly. "I am not going to do all the work." I scoff. "I will do it with you." He says. Nobody has ever talked to me or looked at me like that. "Thanks." I laugh. That night we go to the library. "Okay so X's are divided by..?" I ask Lamar to finish the equation. "They are divided by.. B?" He asks. "Great." I say. I smile. "So you are dating Shelby?" I ask. "We broke up last night." He scoffs. "She is such a brat." He says. Those words linger in my head. I laugh a little. After we work on the project, he walks me home. "You aren't what people say. You are better." He smiles. "Thanks." I laugh a little.
I give out a slight 'Phew' when I walk inside. My mom is stirring a bowl. "What's that?"I ask. "Autumn salad." She sings. "Yeah. I ate with Lamar." I lie. "Sure you did." she sings. I walk to my bedroom and plop on my bed. I open my pink diary.
"Dear diary, today was magical. I felt like I was one of the cool kids with glasses and plaid clothes. Wish I was. Lamar is so cool! He isn't mean or he doesn't slack off. I felt like-like I had a chemistry with him. That's all for now but I want to end up with Lamar."
I get out my song book.
Oh I am singing now oh oh I can't help but say oh oh i am so high I touch the clouds ohhh ohhh. Verse 1.
Ok done.
