Excerpt VIII - Liberation

After about another week of Dynise being confused and I myself thinking about my identity. I finally realized that this was my second chance. I finally understood that there was a reason I was attacked by humanity. I wasn't human. I was different. Not like them. But even then I thought that, but what was I exactly? I didn't know until I truly met Dynise. I was a dragon. And my name was Forae. Dynise likes the name, and I felt renewed and alive for the first time since my parents died. One night, Dynise and I went to a town far away, on his back I road in the starlit sky. It was a wonderful night, and everything was going right for once. I went to a trade shop, and the shopkeep screamed because of my arm, asking if I was alright. I said that I wanted a Dragon Mask, and he said that I didn't have the money, so Dynise persuaded him. He gave me an old bone mask of a dragon skull, a little scared of Dynise. I smiled as he said I could have it for free, and I decide to take a black cloak with me as well. As we got home to our mountain, while the full moon shown brightly in this beautiful night, I place the mask onto my face, tying the black cloak around me and placing its hood over my head. I felt liberated from my previous form, and I yelled my new name to the moon and stars, to show how proud I am to be a dragon! I place my fathers knife in my pants pocket, smiling and laughing to the moon, and then hugging Dynise, crying a bit. He looked concerned, but eventually laid down for me to sleep against him in that truly wonderful night. Unfortunately, I, Forae, was doomed to not feel that liberation forever. My last life still haunted my mind, and I still wanted to see that crown bleed...
