Dad,
I know you love me.
You tell me everyday. But God does it hurt when
You're only proud of me
because I lost a few pounds. It hurts when
I haven't seen you for a week
The first thing you say to me is
"You look like you lost a few pounds."It hurts when
You tell me my lungs will
Start working better
"After you lose a couple pounds"It hurts when
We haven't talked in a while
And I randomly get a message saying
"Tips on losing weight."It hurts when
I remember how it was four
Years ago when you would say
"Get outside and get exercise. You need it."It hurts when
You started offering me money
For every pound I lost, saying
"$10 for every pound."It hurts when
I find the old weight loss
Pills in the cabinet and you say
"They'll help."It hurts when
My friends used to come over
And see my weight posted on the fridge
"What's that?"It hurts when
You tell me to stop hanging
Out with my overweight friends because
"They're bad influences."It hurts when
I'm starting to feel good
About myself again and you ask
"Did you lose anymore weight?"I know you love me dad.
But your words hurt me.
