With the help of Bucky, you helped a wounded Steve trudge through the thick snow towards the little wooden cabin, fighting against the wind and snow until you came to the door. You took a hold of Steve whilst Bucky made quick work of opening the heavy wooden door, before once again helping you with Steve inside the cabin.
Your feet were wet, your uniforms were frozen to your bodies, your bones were starting to ache from the cold. God, you hated winter... when you were on a mission and getting shot at.
"There should, ah- in the bathroom, be a first aid kit, doll." Steve let out a grunt as Bucky helped him sit down on a wooden chair.
You nodded and quickly ran through the small cabin to the bathroom. As you quickly pulled things out of the cupboards your mind wondered back to the previous events. The mission that had been going so perfectly well until the last minute when you were almost killed but Steve had jumped in front of you, taking a bullet right in his lower abdomen for you instead.
"Y/N?" Bucky shouted, frustration laced his tone.
You quickly grabbed a hold of the green first aid kit and ran back to the room the boys were in. From what you could piece together from the couple of chairs and the small two piece couch it was what used to be the lounge. You held it out to Bucky who hesitantly took it from you.
"I thought, you'd be, all over this." Bucky spoke as he tended to Steve's wound. You shook your head as you took a step back, carefully watching the pair. "I can't, see a thing." Bucky grunted.
"I'll turn, a light, on." you whispered before quickly going over to light switch. You flicked it but nothing happened. "Damn it." you sighed, moving over to another switch only to have the same results.
Bucky glanced over his shoulder to where you were in the kitchen. He watched you move from one cupboard to another. "What are you doing?" he asked.
"Looking for-" you walked back to where they were, holding a candle and some matches. "Some light." you smiled softly as you walked back over to him. "Looks like there's no power." you said as you sat on the floor in front of Steve.
"No surprise." Steve hissed.
You raised your eyebrow at him. "And why's that?" you asked as you lit the candle.
"This place, has been abandoned for, ah, years." Steve answered you.
"How do you know?" Bucky asked,
"Back before, SHIELD, went down the first time, there was these safe houses all over... when SHIELD fell, they were forgotten..." he sighed a little. "Some were reactivated, the ones that weren't compromised... some were torn down-"
"And this one?" Bucky asked looking up.
"Left to rot... SHIELD... checked it out, you know, to make sure it hadn't been compromised and once it had been cleared, they cleared everything out and left the shell."
"So, if there's no power, there's no phone line, which means there's no way of us contacting the others, which means we're screwed and stuck here." you dropped your head into your hands. "And, it's all my fault." you sighed deeply, tears slowly began to fill your eyes.
"Hey." Steve reached out and gently placed his hand on your cheek. "Y/N, it's not your fault." you said as he lifted your face so you were looking at him.
"But, you jumped in front of that bullet for me."
Steve nodded smiling softly at you. "Isn't that what team mates do?" he asked. You nodded taking a deep breath. "And, wouldn't you do the same for me?" he asked.
"Of course I would."
"So, it's not your fault, doll... Besides, if I'd have let you get hit, I'd have never heard the end of it from this jerk." Steve winked teasingly as he slapped his hand onto Bucky's shoulder.
