//A/N// Wattpad being the glorious creation it is decided to delete my goddamn chapter so this is gonna be the rewrite of it
Masky was in the forest, an uncertainty gnawing him internally. That boy he saw yesterday, he could've sworn he didn't have eyes. Perhaps it was simply a trick of the light, but something seemed off and he became determined to investigate. He returned to the small broken cottage he had seen the man lurking in the day previous but there were no traces of him whatsoever. In fact, it looked like the place hadn't been inhabited for years. It was odd, he thought. He returned to where he had tackled him over, the cogs in his mind turning, attempting to figure where he had went. He lifted his mask, lighting a cigarette in his mouth, thinking. There were a few buildings in the area, some more inhabitable than others. He decided he'd have to check there. He felt almost threatened by the ominous presence. He blew out a puff of smoke, being reminded of his previous interactions with the paranormal, The Operator, who tormented him and followed him. He shook his head, hopefully this creature, whatever he was, turned out to be a normal person or at least something that wasn't infected by 'The Sickness'. He finished his cigarette quickly, dropping it on the ground and putting it out with a few stamps of his foot. He put his mask back on, a small comfort and flicker of courage emerging internally whilst he did this.
This courage was short lived, however, as a familiar masked creature meandered through the withered oak trunks. His heart sank and he in fact realised it had no eyes but he noticed the almost menacing, hunched posture and held his breath slightly. His previous confidence had evaporated almost immediately as he tried to silently creep away, however, this caused a rotten branch to let out a deep crunch beneath his foot. Masky gazed up, unsure what to expect, but was greeted by two, black sockets poised in his general direction like two black holes, ready to drown him in the darkness.
Jack had noticed the other man as soon as noise emitted from where he was standing. The two were locked in a thick, unbreakable gaze before Jack lunged towards him, an instinct to survive driving him on towards him. Masky let out a startled yell as he was tackled into the undergrowth by the lightweight creature who let out a slight hiss. Black liquid dropped messily on the shorter man's beige jacket as he desperately tried to throw or kick the being off. Eventually, with a grunt, Jack was knocked off, causing a soft whine to come from him before he stood up. "What are you?!" The man asked, alarmed but in a soft raspy voice, the creature merely responded, "Jack, who may you be?" Masky was taken aback at the almost polite tone, lacing the rough but somewhat soft voice. "Timothy Wright, But call me Masky," he introduced in a very formal manner.
Jack paused a second, eyeing him up. "Got any organ problems?" He questioned nonchalantly, receiving an odd stare from Masky. "No?" Masky responded, almost questioningly, which caused Jack to smirk beneath his mask. He removed his scalpel from his pocket, though his nails were sharp enough to rip the man apart anyway. Immediately, Masky sensed the danger and grabbed a dry, thick stick as his weapon of defence. Jack faked a lunge forward, causing Masky to attack and leave himself open. Immediately the thin creature bowled himself into Masky, knocking him over, giving him the advantage. Unluckily, he was met with a sharp blow to the face, which caused his mask to rip of and make a slight laceration to his left cheek. He hissed at the new exposition of his face and swiftly dived after his mask, putting it back on. His face was a pale grey, like the rest of his skin and was rather human for the most part. Permanent black tears dripped from his eyes and his teeth were a yellow shade and jagged, the scent of death also poured from the creatures mouth causing a look of disgust to form on Masky's face. He got up, ready for another attack, but was surprised when the creature simply laughed and put his weapon away.
"Food doesn't often put up a fight... I'll leave you go for now," he said simply, his voice, rough, alike to sandpaper, or something unpleasant. "You won't kill me?" Masky asked in disbelief, not letting his guard down, quite fond of the idea of smashing something's skull open. "Not yet. Perhaps I have a newfound infatuation with something, someone, being you. Or perhaps I'm just saving my appetite for another time," Jack added the last part with a devious tone, something very true and malicious about it, yet the playful phrasing made it rather unsettling.
Before either could say anything more there was shouting, quickly identified by distant police sirens. "They must be on to me," Jack commented gravely and Masky gulped, knowing he had a few run ins with the law. Sensing this, the taller creature groaned and roughly grabbed his shoulder with a surprisingly strong grip. "Come, I'll hide you till they're gone," He mutter grumpily, no longer sounding so sadistic. Masky realised the creature known as 'Jack' was probably too exhausted to put up another fight to be fed. It was odd, but he felt a sense of friendship in the entity, a small spark of trust.
Jack led him to an abandoned hospital and guided him carefully to his living quarters, simply settling him on his mattress. "Got any injuries?" Jack questioned emotionlessly, a lack of care evident in his voice, but he sounded like he was trained to say it routinely. Masky simply shook his head, confused about this creature and how it existed. Jack nodded to himself and left to go find some easy food, ignoring the new presences of Masky and the police.
It wasn't long before Masky had lay down and fallen asleep, tired and confused on how he was spared. Jack returned, grumbling about how he didn't kill Masky. Upon seeing the man so vulnerable, however, he didn't feel the slightest spark of hunger, which was peculiar. Instead, to avoid bothering the sleeping figure he sat leaning against a cold wall and closed his eyelids to rest.
