He carefully prods at my head and does the eye tests.
"It looks like you have a mild concussion, but tomorrow I'll have my mate Luke look at you to make sure it's nothing worse." I nod, then his phone pings. He takes out his phone and looks at the message sent.
"Well, I have to go. Take care of yourself. Drink lots of water, take Tylenol. Make sure Hannah gets some sleep and has a lot of fluids. And I don't recommend taking her to school tomorrow. I'll see you tomorrow." He says with a smile and walks out of the orphanage back the way we came from. I gulp, I definitely did not want to go to school tomorrow, but I have to.
I go downstairs and grabbed Hannah some gave her fever reducers and water as I promise. I made sure Hannah was comfortable before going downstairs to hang out with Thomas before I had to go to work. Mrs. Houchens came back just in time for me to go to work. I hand her the permission slip.
Then go upstairs and get dressed in plain khakis and a black shirt. I then go to work.
After five hours of work, I was about ready to go to bed. Nausea didn't stop and my ears are still ringing.
I had to keep working. I had to. The orphanage is depending on me, but this is too much.
I went into my boss's office and told him that I was going to clock out. He told me to feel better and to come in tomorrow feeling better. He was very nice and considerate.
I walk all the way home. Missing my bed dearly.
I get back, only to find everyone still up. I clear my throat.
"Um, what are you all doing still up?" They all look at me then jump up to go get ready for bed, well except Mitchell. He just came through the door as well. I go into the kitchen to get some water. There I see Hannah. She looks horrible. She looks at me then collapses. I rush to her.
"Mitchell!!!" I scream. He runs in.
"What happened?!"
"She collapsed! Go get Mrs. Houchens!!"
"She isn't here!" He comes in after looking for her.
"Damnit!" I shout. "Stay here. Make sure everyone is in bed." He looks at with panic in his eyes. "You'll be fine. If they give you trouble, tell them that they will hear from me."
"We can afford the hospital bill, Ashlynn! You know that!"
"Does it look like we have a choice! She could die! Suck it up, I'll be back soon." All this yelling is making my head hurt more. I carefully pick up her tiny body and starts to walk to the hospital.
I continue to walk to the hospital before checking my pocket. I had fifteen pounds. I hail a cab and told him to rush to the hospital. I pay him all my money and rush into the hospital.
There Calum stood. Check over a file. The tears started to flow over my cheeks. I rush over to him.
"Calum!!" I say. He looks up at me surprised then it changes to worried when he sees the unconscious little girl in my arms and the super worried and scared look on my face.
"What happened?!"
"I- she-..." Started to cry even harder.
"It's okay Ashlynn, calm down." He says while I try to take a deep breath and relax.
"I came home from work early, because my head was throbbing, and I was starting to feel sick. And when I got home I went into the kitchen to get some water, and when I got in there she was already in there and she looked at me and collapsed." I started to cry even more.
