For pretty much everyone at Françoise Dupont High School, they were having the winter break of their lives. Granted, there were a few spots of boredom; but most of the time, everyone was with their family or friends, doing things they may or may not want to do.
Not for Adrien, though. For him, winter break was miserable. A time where he was packed with winter photo shoots and patrol during the day, the time around where his mother disappeared, and the time holding her favorite holiday. His father never bothered to have a meal with him even for the occasions, and he was just happy he had gotten to go to the group's new year's party.
But now, he was lonely and bored. Even though the town was bustling with people, it still felt empty. So he sat on his perch, at the top of the eiffel tower.
"What a lovely winter break," he murmured. "Yeah, right."
"Chat Noir?"
He looked behind him, seeing his lady.
"Oh, Ladybug. Hey."
She sat down next to him. "Are you okay?"
He laughed. "Truthfully? Not really."
Her frown deepened. She hated seeing him in this sorrowful state. "Is some particular the matter?"
"No," he said. "I guess not."
"What's wrong?"
"It's nothing you should worry yourself with."
"Kitty." Ladybug turned his face towards her. "Tell me what's wrong."
"I just miss her, that's all." Even though he didn't say a particular name, Ladybug knew exactly who he was talking about. "Right before break, we'd always spend a day together. No interruptions. We'd watch movies, and we'd play games. I just miss that."
"I'm sorry, Chat. I should've been here for you sooner."
"It's not your place to fill," he said quietly. "I appreciate you, and I love you; I think the world of you. But this is one hole you can't fill."
She rested her head on his shoulder. "Okay," she whispered. "But I'll still be here for you."
