Ladybug slipped in the open window to Adrien's bedroom, quickly shutting it so the room didn't get any colder. She detransformed.

There sat Adrien at the piano, ready in formal attire. His back was hunched, his stomach churned.

"Adrien?"

He straightened. "Oh, sorry, Marinette. I didn't notice you were here."
Marinette gave a worried sigh, sitting down on the bench next to him. "Are you ready?"

"No. I don't think I could ever be ready for this."

"Are you okay?"

Adrien hesitated, his eyes filled with tears. "I don't know... No. I'm not okay."

"Adrien..."

"Everytime I play... Every time I still remember. I still remember my mother." His breath caught. "I would play with my hands on top of hers, that's how we did it, that's how I learned, but now..? Piano isn't fun for me. I play alone, only to please my father."

"I'm sorry, Adrien..." Marinette began to cry, leaning into him.

He turned to give a startled look towards her, not expecting her tears. "Marinette..?"

"I'm sorry I can't be there for you." She sniffed. "You're always there for me, and the time that you really need me I can't help and it kills me."

He gave her a small smile, tilting her chin up to look in her bluebell eyes. "Marinette... You have such a beautiful heart, and I love you for that. I'll be okay. It's just a piano competition."

"You promise?"

"Swear it on my heart, princess."

"I love you Adrien. Good luck."

He kissed her on the cheek. "Thank you. I love you, too."
