5. Secretive

It was finally winter break. Roger had been excited as ever after he and John had made their plans for Christmas Eve, so much so that it came up in every conversation he and his teacher had. Roger couldn't tell if he was more excited about spending a whole day with John, the two of them alone or Christmas itself. No. He could tell. He was definitely more excited to see John, the man he was madly in love with.

It was 11:30am on Christmas Eve. John called Roger's house phone in the best mood he'd been in for a while.

"Hi, Deaky"
Roger said enthusiastically after picking up the phone.

"Hey" he chuckled. "Excited?"

"Very"
Roger grinned, twisting the phone wire around his finger.
"You don't know how early I woke up this morning"

"That's cute"

Roger laughed a little and blushed.

"I missed your voice.."
John sighed happily.

"Me too.."
He whispered, smiling to himself.
"Hey..I'll go down now, see you downstairs in a bit"

"See you"
John said softly before putting the phone down.

Just as Roger opened up his bedroom door to get downstairs, he saw a very familiar person in front of him.

Dominique's face said it all.
"Who was that?"

Roger felt his stomach sink and his heart race.
"Oh..um.."
He was trying to think of a believable answer.
"Just..someone. Hey.. I'm heading out now..so I can't spend time with you, sorry"

"Just someone?!"
She repeated in annoyance.

"I gotta go now, sorry!"
He said quickly, pushing past her slightly only to run down the stairs and get out of the house via the back door.

"Roger!"
Dominique called after him, quickly following him down the stairs.

Roger was already out of breath. He was faster than her so he'd definitely lost her. Now all he had to do was find John. He approached a car, only to see John sat inside with a warm smile on his face.

"John"
Roger said, happy to finally be with him again.

"Get in"
John said softly, beaming at him from inside the car.

Little did they know, Dominique was standing outside the front of Roger's house, witnessing Roger getting into the car with someone unfamiliar to her.

"So... we're off to your place now?"

"M-hm"
John hummed as a yes as he place a soft kiss on Roger's cheek before starting to drive.

Roger shyly took John's hand and the older man intertwined their fingers.
"So..what do you do in your spare time?"
Roger had asked John this before but he was hoping for a different answer this time.

"Hm... spending time with friends..going out for drinks..nothing too fancy"
He shrugged.

"I like it"
Roger replied with a warm smile.

"What about you, hm?"

"Ehh..I do the same stuff"
He shrugged while John raised an eyebrow with a smile.
"Seems like we have a lot in common after all"

"Apart from our age"

"Age doesn't matter"
He told him with another shrug.

"It does when it's illegal.."
John sighed. There were always moments like this. Moments when they spoke about how wrong it was for John to be with Roger..a young boy.
