On Sunday, after Roger left her house, Jade was pensive in her room, and when she closed her eyes, her great friend Roger was smiling, smiling at her beautifully with her bright blue eyes and blond hair in the wind. At dawn, Jade could not sleep, and sat on the bed. She sighed deeply and wept again. A few days later, Jade informed her parents of the decision and William did not agree, but Samira supported her daughter.
"Well, my daughter, from now on, make friends with children of doctors, dentists, businessmen, architects, I know some very beautiful ones and I can introduce you to them," said Samira.
"I do not want to meet anyone, Mom, I'm very sad and ashamed of myself for making that decision," Jade said.
Thursday, February 17, 1972.
Jade could no longer stand the nostalgia she felt for the boys, especially Freddie and Roger. Freddie had called her last Tuesday, saying that Roger had talked to the other boys and that he was very hurt. Freddie was very upset about Jade's decision and said he would expect her to regret that decision and go back. Otherwise, he would lose Freddie, Brian, and John's friendship forever as well. Noon. Jade picks up the phone and calls Freddie at the Kensington Market and waits for him to answer.
"Hello," the voice said.
"Freddie, it's me, Jade," the girl said in a shaky voice.
"Why, the one who's alive always shows up," Freddie said wryly.
"Freddie, please, no ironies," Jade said annoyed. "I'm feeling really bad, I'm missing you all. I made the wrong decision and I'm afraid it's too late.
"Roger," Freddie said, "and Roger is very ill if you want to know." During the week he drank beyond the account and said that you deceived him, as to the feeling, the friendship. Roger is very hurt, Jade.
"I wonder," Jade said, crying. "What should I do, Freddie?" I'm desperate, I need to see you all.
"I think I can help you," Freddie said. "Tomorrow night at my apartment and Mary's, we'll get our friends together for beer and pizza and you're invited. I think you can talk to all of us and ask for forgiveness, especially for Roger. And I want to know something about you and I hope you're very honest.
"Freddie, you may ask, I'll answer," Jade said sobbing.
"Promise you'll talk to the director of the modeling agency and tell him you'll lose the contract, but your priority is your friends," Freddie said. "You promise Jade?" Please, do it.
"I swear," Jade said. "I'll do that today and tomorrow I'll talk to all of you." And tomorrow I'll talk to you all. But please do not tell anyone for a while that I will, I want to surprise you, because if you say maybe people will not be here tomorrow, you understand?
"Of course I do, my dear friend," Freddie smiled into the phone. "Thank heavens you've changed your mind, I'll comment on this only with Mary, because to keep her secret she's reliable.
- Ok Freddie, thank you my friend, see you tomorrow what time?
"From nine o'clock on, my dear," Freddie smiled. "See you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow, Freddie," Jade said, hanging up the phone.
The girl had lunch with her parents and in the afternoon she was the modeling agency and talked to the director and said that she no longer wants to be a photographic model of them and that she chose her friends. The director lamented.
"I'm sorry, but you will lose the contract with the agency and lots of money," said the director of the modeling agency.
"I do not care," Jade said flatly. "My family, my friends, are more important than any money in the world. Where should I sign here on paper to undo the contract?
