SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER
ACT 1 SCENE 1;
Mr. Hardcastle is a country man who is talking to his wife Mrs. Hardcastle, she complains about there being no excitement in the country, and that she does not like the old stories that Mr. Hardcastle tells her, he jokes about her age and tells her that he like the simple old things of life, then they talk about tony, who is Mrs. Hardcastle son from her first marriage to Mr. lumpkin, she says that he is high spirited but Mr. Hardcastle says that he is rude and bad mannered, then kate their daughter joins them. she is dressed in expensive clothing. her father tells her that she most dress moderately when Mr. Marlow the man they chose for kate marry visits. he states that kate is outspoken while Mr. Marlow is modest. they are joined by miss constance Neville who is Mrs. Hardcastle niece. the two girls talk about Marlow, Miss Neville tells kate that he is a friend of Hastings a man who admires Miss Neville and wants to marry her. Then they talk about Miss Neville jewels that are with Mrs. Hardcastle which she would only give her if she marries tony.
SCENE 2:
Tony is enjoying himself in a pup, singing songs and drinking, then the landlord of the pup tells him about the arrival of two lost travelers. Tony knows that they must be marlow and hastings, he then gives them complicated directions to Mr Hardcastle's house, he is bent on playing a joke on them and his step father so he gives them directions to Mr Hardcastle's house but he tells them that it is an inn, so as to trick them.
ACT 2, SCENE 1:
Marlow and Hastings arrive at the Mr. Hardcastle's house, though they still think it's an inn which makes them act rude to Mr. Hardcastle because they think that it is an inn and that he is the inn keeper, they demand different things from him, Mr Hardcastle thinks that Marlow is rude but he still meets their demands. Hastings then sees Miss Neville who informs him that they were not in an inn but in the house of Mr. Hardcastle, Hastings then realizes that it must have been a joke. Hastings tells Marlow about Miss Neville and that Miss hardcastle is also around but does not tell him that it is the house of Mr Hardcastle.
kate comes in and meets them but Marlow is so uncomfortable so he kept looking down therefore he does not know what she looks like.
SCENE 2:
Miss Neville and tony are talking, then hastings and Mrs Hardcastle come in conversing together. she complains about her boring life and Hastings complements her on her style, Mrs Hardcastle keeps interrupting tony and miss neville's conversation saying that tony has been saying sweet things to Miss Neville, tony gets angry and and answers her rudely. she feels hurt then hastings tell them to leave him alone with tony.
The two have a talk, with tony complaining about his mother being mean and about Miss Neville, Hastings tells tony that he will get Miss Neville of his hands, in return tony tells him that he would help them get married by getting Miss Neville's jewels.
ACT 1, SCENE 1:
Mr Hardcastle is alone thinking about Marlow and feeling quite disturbed. Then kate comes in, they talk about marlow, they find out that they hold different opinions of him, kate finds him to be shy but Mr Hardcastle finds him to be rude and impudent.They agree that kate should test him and see if he is actually rude. Then they leave.
