A few days after were spent at the hospital taking shifts while Franco had to return to work allowing me to watch over Aubrey while spooning through the floating ideas that were floating about, there weren't any other reports about the murders only parents fearful of these developing stories that specific students are being targeted.
It was already three days into the second week and there weren't any new branches of ideas that Benjamin and I could surface through it was an endless cave of 'what if's' that was making this impossible to pinpoint. I wanted to go to Dan's house and check out the case files he had there, but I couldn't risk Aubrey's safety.
Aubrey was resting on the bed with their recovery being a slow improvement with their bruises healing including wounds that were now covered in small patches of band-aids instead of gauze. There were days that I wanted to wake them to do anything I can to hear their voices again to be bugged with endless theories of how a new corpse could've died from unknown causes or eat lunch with them in the morgue.
Once the night was here Franco entered the room with his uniform still intact rubbing the gruffness of his face asking, "How did everything go? Any improvements." He pulled a seat beside me at the side of the bed exhausting an exhale.
"Their injuries are healing, but...it's going to take some time before the swelling of the brain goes down. They have only been here for four days not much anything can happen." I answered yawning tiredly.
"How was work?" I asked glancing over to him.
Franco shrugged taking notice of the grass stains on his knees and partial parts of his shirt, "I had chase down some asshole down a kids park, tackled him on the grass before this Rookie finally showed up after getting his North and Southbound confused."
Franco was partner type of officer that was instant besties to every cop in the district, still, he was a patient man that dealt with his fair share of Rookies prepared to train them if they were willing enough to learn. There were countless officers I met before him that was distasteful at the most, some were know-it-alls too then there was this old timer that footed the bill of being tough and a father figure.
"At least you had action, I was here watching General Hospital a show that I promised to never watch. I'm growing desperate if I don't start seeing some Grey's Anatomy drama in this hospital I'm going to go drive myself insane." I explained crossing my arms exasperating a sigh.
Franco chuckled following with a yawn as well we laughed it off silently sitting there for a few minutes before I took another look at the watch at the other side of the wall, "I need to go home, no amount of food is going to restore a sleepy person."
"Benjamin's going to take my place in a few hours, I'll text you and let you know when I leave," Franco reassured giving me a brief hug before leaving the room to rest for the night.
Leaving the hospital I pulled the zipper up to my chest looking up a man in police uniform was standing two feet away, squinting slightly the recognition dawned that this man was Rookie from days prior. I looked around spotting a handful of nurses at the other building across this field.
Walking towards the parking garage the man was by the bench near a pair of trees, pressing down on each grass I listened to every footstep speeding every step while I prepared myself for an attack. The few days had me training with Benjamin learning to use the full extent of my abilities while also conditioning myself to restrain when necessary.
