I was just at the office designing a character when a new guy came in.
Of course he was completely star struck when he saw video game designer, Colin Ritman. An absolute celebrity of the video game world.
I waved as the three of them walked into the office. Colin handed me his smoke "keep safe yeah?" He nods before returning with the others.
I scoff, examining his smoke, a roll up, I had to laugh. If this guy has as much money as people say, why not pay for top quality, and as much as he smokes, it should be a priority.
I take a long drag of it, trying to determine what all the fuss was about. I did smoke but not in the work place and not as often as he did.
I smirked as the white smoke exited my mouth to the air. The effects hit me immediately... maybe I should invest in roll ups.
My mind expanded as to what Colin did outside of work. What did he live in? A house? Apartment? Penthouse?
Did he keep in touch with his family? Did he even have family?
The door to the conference room opens, a slight panic washed through me, I pulled the joint away from my face. It was the young guy, he hurried out the office without a word.
Colin and Thakur exit shortly after he did. I hold out his roll up to him, smiling awkwardly. He nods in substitute for a proper thank you.
"I need to get a video short for the local therapy place thingy" Thakur explains poorly to me.
"Why are we doing a video short?" I ask.
"They asked for some assistance and we'll be doing em a good deed, now chop chop"
"I don't know anything about mental health, I'm a designer not a doctor"
"It's not informational, a cartoon short welcoming guests and telling them it's going to be alright" he gives me one last smile before walking off.
I sigh, moving to a whole new piece of paper. "I'll help you" Colin says from his desk, his feet propped up on the desk.
"It's alright, you have your work and I have mine, can't ask you to stop what your doing for me" I politely decline, but like every situation like this one, he'll end up helping me.
It's what humans do, we try, Colin was trying to help me.
"I Don't mind" he insists.
"If your heart desires" I shrug, looking back at my blank paper.
"Consider it a thank you from me" he pulls up a chair. I helped him design the logo for his game, Nohzdyve.
"So I was thinking something that can appeal to younger and older audiences, so no cute little monsters or anything, I think we should just use cute cartoon people" I sketch out an outline of the person on my paper.
"Maybe like this?" I tilt my head, second guessing my work. "It's Good" is all he says.
I haven't been here long but I knew he didn't smile much. I've never witnessed him smile either.
Over the weeks of working, I accomplished a small goal. I actually made him smile, not only did I do that but let out a small chuckle.
I was just talking his ear off, making hand motions with a pencil in my hand when I turned, pointing the pencil at him when it flew out my hand, hitting him square in the chest.
My jaw dropped, I just stared at him, lookin real stuck. The corners of his mouth turned upward to a smile, he pinched the pencil from his lap, tucking it between my ear.
