I live an extraordinary life. I live to the fullest. I have as many friends as I can count up to, I have an amazing sexy boyfriend, and I have an amazing body. The only thing holding me down... Is type 1 diabetes. Nobody knows I have it. Not even my best friend, Tessa. You see, if people found out, they could take it one of two ways. They could feel sympathy for me and my situation, and pity me and all the shots I take every day, or they could hate me and never want anything to do with me because I'm not as perfect as I claim to be.

"Autumn to the nurse please!" I despise it when the perky intercom lady says my name. It makes me sick. I looked up from what I was doodling on the side of my science notes and smile. Since the school nurse and I have the same last name, everyone assumes she's related to me and that she calls me down there for family matters. Nobody ever questioned it, everyone was so self absorbed in themselves to even notice me getting up from my chair and walking to the nurse. Take Tessa, for example. I watched her as I was getting up to leave. She was so fixed on herself, she didn't even look up from her tiny mirror to say goodbye. Nobody would ever find out.

"Hey sexy"

"Missed you Aiden!"

"Missed you more" Aiden said and kissed me.

"That's impossible" I said grinning. We stopped in our tracks to stare at each other. God he was so cute. His eyes were the color of sapphire. Bold and brilliant. A few strands of hair would usually get in the way of his eye and I fell in love with his half smile. He usually crosses his arms to flex his muscles, and if he ever smiled (which was often) even just a little bit, his dimples would indent his beautiful face.

"I got you something" Aiden broke the silence. I pretended to look surprised, even though I knew about the gift. Renee had told me yesterday.

He opened a box to show a pair of beautiful silver infinity earrings. "We'll last for infinity and beyond." He said, smiling his half smile as I put in the earrings.

"Forever." I said just before we parted ways.

"You're late. Autumn, you knows what happens if you don't take your insulin shots!"

"I know, I know. a few minutes late won't kill me."

"It might." Mrs. Dixon hesitated before opening up a shot. I watched as she unwrapped it, and stuck it in a bottle of insulin. When she pulled it out, I could see the insulin through the clear shot.

"These always hurt!"

"I know but since the school policy has changed, we have to give you the individual plastic ones that barely work. I'm sorry Autumn." I just moaned after that. There's nothing I, or anyone else can do. I closed my eyes as she inserted the shot right to the left of my bellybutton. Then I heard a fire alarm, and dozens of people screaming. I looked to see the needle only halfway finished, still adjacent to my stomach. I have a needle in me, while the nurse is all the way over in the halls trying to control the chaos. When I saw all the students crowding the window seeing the real secret behind Autumn Dixon, my palms began to sweat. I blinked twice as if I'm imagining things. People now know I don't come here for family matters, but because I have diabetes. People pointing and shouting things didn't help. Then I saw Tessa looking at me like I was a piece of road kill. To her that's what I was. And I knew that keeping this secret from her was the biggest mistake of my life. She was going to ruin my life.
