Chapter Two
“Is that Ms. Peterson?” I asked watching the paramedics rush a woman to the ambulance.
“I can’t tell there’s too much blood.” Jess said in a worried tone.
“I’m pulling in.” Garrett said and started to pull in without hesitation.
Mr. Mason the principal stopped us before we could get close enough to see inside the ambulance. He walked quickly over to Garrets’ door as Garrett opened his window.
“What happened? Is that Ms. Peterson? Is she ok?” Garrett asked not wasting anytime.
“Yes, I will fill you in in a minute but I need you to move so the ambulance can get out.” Mr. Mason said quickly.
We pulled out of the way and waited for Mr. Mason to return as the ambulance flew by.
“I wonder what the hell happened. I hope she’s ok, I actually liked her.” Jess said as Mr. Mason was walking over to some police officers then to us.
“I’m gonna need you to leave, this is now a crime scene.” He said with a serious and worried face.
“What happened?!” Jess yelled.
“We don’t know for sure, all we know is that Ms. Peterson was doing some last minute grading and I heard a scream so I ran down to her classroom and there she was covered in her own blood. She was stabbed multiple times in the stomach. I called 911 and I tried to stop the bleeding but I couldn’t.”
“Is she gonna be ok? Who would do such a thing?” I said while trying to hold back the tears in my eyes.
“It doesn’t look good so I can’t say for sure and we have no idea who did it all we know is that they escaped through her classroom window.”
“Oh god I hope she’s ok.” I said finally letting the tears fall.
“Levi, I know you and your parents were good friends of hers but you’re gonna have to stay strong and hope for the best.” Jess said.
“I’m sorry but I need you guys to leave now and don’t tell anyone what happened. I don’t want this getting out over social media ok?”
“Ok” Garrett said to Mr. Mason before pulling out and heading to my house.
“How am I supposed to tell my parents? They are gonna be so upset. I should have asked what hospital they were taking her to so we could go visit her.” I said as we were pulling into my driveway.
“Do you want us to go in with you? Or do you want to hang out for a little bit” Jess said with a worried look on her face.
“Yes please I don’t want to tell them by myself.”
“Garrett are you coming?” Jess said as we were getting out.
“No, sorry guys I have to get home… My parents didn’t know I was taking y’all shopping”
“You f*cking idot.” Jess said rolling her eyes and putting her arm around me.
“Let’s go Levi, are you ready?”
“I think so...”
As we walked up to the house all I could think was; “What if she dies?!”, “What if she goes into a coma?!”, “What if my parents are mad that I didn’t tell them sooner?!”
When I looked up and we were at my front steps, Jess asked me again if I was ready and I hesitated, not because I wasn’t ready but because I was afraid of their reactions.
“Hey kids how was…” My mom came to greet me and Jess then saw the look on my face and called for my Dad.
“Stacy, Kurt, Levi has something important to tell you.” Jess said to my parents who were giving me worried looks.
Jess pushed me forward and whispered “You can do it.” In my ear.
“M-mom, Dad, it’s… its Mya… There was an accident at the school… We don’t know what happened for sure but she’s in the hospital…”
“Oh my god! H-how do you know? Who told you?” My mom was already starting to cry. I’ve known Mya all my life but my 18 years compared to her 30 is nothing.
“We were on our way back and we saw an ambulance heading toward the school so we followed it.” I said now looking at my dad’s odd expression.
“Lord please look over Mya and let her be ok.” My mother mumbled to herself but begged to God.
“Mr. Mason asked us not to tell anyone because the police don’t know who did it.” I was saying mostly to my mother because I knew she would say something in church on Sunday but today is Friday so hopefully Mya will be doing better and the police will have caught the guy by then.
“Do you know which hospital she’s at?” My father finally spoke.
“No, I didn’t think to ask. I assume that they would take her to Wesley unless she asked to go somewhere else.” I was kinda relieved that my dad was talking now.
“RRRRRR----INGG!” The phone made us jump.
“Hello?” My mom said over the phone while we all stared, curious who was calling.
“OH MY GOD! NO NO NO NO! GOD PLEASE NO!” My mother started crying hysterically. She hung up the phone and fell to the ground as my father ran to her.
“I-I-Its Mya… She’s gone.”
