The market sellers shout their wares
Mucky kids barefoot try to steal an apple
The flower girl shouts "Please buy my flowers"
The drunken dockers argue and grapple.
The toff with the stick shoves the kids away
"Please sir, spare us a bob"
He pushes them away and says "shove off"
They immediately scarper as the copper does his job.
The flower girl watches as people pass her by
Ignoring her as she holds out her flowers
"Please sir, just buy some for your pretty wife"
But the man just laughs, while a hot pie he devours.
The markets all gone and the inns are all silent
People tucked up at home in their beds
But the flower girl once more, no food to fill her belly
Falls down on the floor and bangs her head.
The cascades of rain drip on her face and her flowers are wilted and broken
A horse and carriage pass by but nobody stops
The rain crashes down some more and the wind brushes the flowers away
A hand suddenly reaches out and her brow it mops.
The flower girl whimpers and tries to look up, her head heavy and limp
She see's a kind face, her bellies so sore
The flower girl weeps and says weakly "Please sir buy my flowers"
The man picks her up and says, "You're safe now, weep no more.
Then 3 years later the flower girl thinks back
To the day that the kind man appeared at her side
She turns to her husband and kisses his cheek, "I love you my darling, my sweetheart, my world
Thank you for making me your bride".
They pass by the market where children run barefoot
A flower girl shouts out her wares "Please sir buy my flowers, for your pretty wife"
He pays her generously and smiles at her kindly
That flower girl says "God bless you sir, you've saved my life".
