As per routine Derek and I had set of once the sun had set to try and find Laura's body and once again we weren't finding anything new. By this point I think we had mapped every trail and tree in the preserve. We walk in silence for ten minutes neither of us wanting to miss something because we were distracted by conversation.

Just as the two of us were preparing to give up for the night a strange scent enters my nose. It smelled of fear, rot and...death. "Hey Derek, I think I found something!" Knowing I've caught his attention from the way his head shot up I start following the smell, resisting the urge to gag when it got stronger. The closer we got the more prominent the scent became.

Within two more minutes the pair of us are standing in front of the body of Laura Hale...well half of it. Laura's top half lay at our feet, her hair tangled, skin pale and dirty, blank unseeing eyes staring back at us.

Noting how hard this must be for Derek I sidle up to him and slip my fingers through his squeezing his hand for comfort. His only response is to squeeze my hand back but I know that the gesture means more to him than any words possibly could. The both of us stand there in silent comfort for several more seconds before an out of place object catches my eye.

Releasing Derek's hand and stepping forward I immediately miss the feeling of his warmth. My temperature may run much higher than normal even for Werewolves, but the sense of completion his own warmth gives me is entirely too addictive. Knocking myself from my thoughts I crouch down and reach for the object, an inhaler?

Straightening up I walk back over to Derek and show him the inhaler. Seeing confusion on his face I point at the ground a couple feet from Laura's body. "I doubt this belongs to a hunter which means somebody has already been here..."

Trailing off I see understanding cross his face. "We should get my sister out of here before they come back."

Nodding I take the cloth and rope we bought to cover Laura's body with. "Why don't you head on back and prepare I'll bring her along in a minute."

"Okay just be careful someone could still be out there." I smile softly and bob my head in recognition of his concern.

Turning back to the task at hand I wait until the sound of Derek's footsteps fades away before wrapping Laura's body in the cloth and tying it up with the rope. Gently pulling her into my arms I rise to my feet once again and turn to leave. As the wind blows slightly I catch the faint scent of another person but don't think much of it seeing as there had been someone else in the area recently.

Walking away from the site it takes my whole being not to slip into a flashback of the deaths of my family. I don't want to remember their screams, the sound of gun shots, the blood splattering the walls or the sneering face of Kate Argent, the hunter that lead the attack.

Finally making it back to the hale house I can see that Derek had already dug the grave. Silently approaching him I carefully pass him Laura's body so he can lay it in the grave, I would have done it for him but the burial has to be complete by a blood relative. Whilst Derek is busy filling in the grave I tie a sprig of Wolf's Bane to a long piece of rope in preparation for the final step. Handing Derek the rope I watch as he loops it around the grave several times finishing by covering the string with dirt so only the wolf's Bane is seen.

After the ritual is complete the pair of us step back to study the grave. Seeing tears run down Derek's face I pull him into my arms, holding him to me for comfort. Shortly after his knees give out from under him causing us both to sink to the ground, my arms still securing him to me whilst ragged sobs force their way up his throat and tears of heartbreak seep in to my shirt.
