She had long, wavy hair and her eyes had an innocent look to them. Just like the ghost in Aunt Virginia's story! The girl floated closer and Lila let out a yelp. She then floated away fast, leaving them.
"Hey guys, look." Sara whispered as she peered over the rail. Below, to everyone's astonishment, were at least two dozen ghosts having a party and dancing. Ghosts disappearing as one ghost blew out birthday candles. Sitting with drinks atop the chandelier. None of them had ever seen a sight like this! Snapping out of her trance Clara said, "We should go before anyone sees us." "Good idea," replied Sara. They walked over to the next room where a glass ball sat on a table, three candles forming a triangle around it and a spell-book on a stand. As Clara looked closer she could make out a woman's head inside the ball. Suddenly, the ball was glowing green and the woman's face was visible. She was sleeping, but waking up. They ducked under the table as she began to speak.
"Are you ready Serena? We don't have much time." Looking up, they saw the ghost girl float over. "Ready as I'll ever be Madame Leota!" she replied excitedly. Oh! Clara thought, Leota as in Leota the gypsy we learned about in class! Then, they saw candles light up the entire room and the glass ball started to float. She then recited what sounded like an incantation "At the first toll when the clock strikes 12, I call all the spirits, wherever they dwell!" Sara and Clara looked at each other, stunned. They were summoning the spirits! Lila tapped Clara's shoulder and pointed across the room. A doorway had been revealed. Lila then pointed up and shut her eyes. She was saying both specters had their eyes shut! Clara peeked up carefully to be sure and found that Lila was right. As quietly as they could, they crept to the doorway and escaped undetected.
