When Olivia left in a hurry without explaining, a frown fell on my face. I looked back at "The Populars" and wondered.
Olivia definitely didn't like them. It was no secret by now. She had explained to me that her reason for such a dislike was their careless and reckless attitude and their irresponsibility and lack of love towards their mates.
However it seems like there's more to it.
The kind of dislike she harbours makes it look like she struggles she even breathe around them. As she's almost suffocated in their presence.
And by them, I specifically mean, Reece.
I couldn't help but wonder if Reece was actually as bad as she had defined.
He has to be. Otherwise why would she hate him so much? If she had so much of compassion for us, newcomers, then why would she hate him without any reason?
The way she had defined him reminded of certain someone. Someone who had made me see how unjust and cruel this world can be. It had happened before our Uncle's betrayal and I was pretty naive back then.
The certain someone was one of Maria's ex. When we attended school back in Philippines for the first time, Maria got very excited. She was enthralled to go to school because we had never been to one. Her mind had picturized school like we read in the novels. She felt like the bad kids aren't that bad afterall because of all the books that she had read. And that was the reason why she got into pretty bad company when we joined. She made friends with all sorts of wrong people who did drugs, came intoxicated to school, abused their partners and lied to their parents. It wasn't nice.
Alisha and I had had confronted her about that, but she didn't listen. In her head, they 'weren't so bad afterall'. It all went like that till she started crushing on on one of their boys from her group.
Tristan. I still remember that bastard's name.
He was the one who broke her so bad that it took her years to heal completely.
They got in a relationship, and he was very nice at first. Very caring, loving, protective- but in a good way. The kind that you want.
But soon his true colours started showing. He started flirting with other girls in front of Maria, he even cheated once or twice, he manipulated her, and when she broke up with him, he just kept coming back and played mind games with my sister. The last straw was however when he abused her.
That was when we had to step in.
He was human- thankfully. So Alisha and I were enough to beat him to pulp and he never bothered Maria after that.
But that was the day I realised that books and real life and two very different worlds.
In books, the someone has the control over characters. But in real life, no one has control over anything.
I guess, when we came here, I had temporarily forgotten about my little realisation and I had gotten attracted by the glory of these wrong people. Maybe that's why I was so attracted to Reece when I saw him.
