**Special surprise for all Olivia lovers in the middle of the chapter**

"Curiosity always has a song to play
And a story to tell
A truth to reveal
And a lie to conceal
Its a song made of darkness
Its lyrics made of choices..."

"What's up with you spending so much time with Olivia these days?" Maria asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Because she seems like the only sane person here." I replied, dryly, before entering the school premises.

"Rose, talk to me," Maria insisted, grabbing my arm and turning me around.

"You are avoiding me." She said, hurt in her eyes. "I'm your twin, your best friend, yet it seems like you are hiding something from me and like you are constantly running away. We've hardly conversed in these past days and I can't help but feel hurt. Did I do something wrong? Are you mad at me? Tell me, Rose. Fight with me. But don't ignore me."

Her words made my insides melt and my eyes softened. I hate hurting her. I hate hiding things. But I can't tell her.

I quickly put a mask of nonchalance on my face— something I'd learned after years of alpha training and rolled my eyes.

"Maria. Please. You're watching too much drama these days and you are making a big deal out of nothing. I am not mad. Neither am I ignoring you. I need space and freedom."

Maria's face turned more and more hurt with every word I said but I controlled myself from hugging her.

"I want to make new friends and I don't want to be stuck with you all the time. So please, stop being so damn clingy."

I rudely scoffed at her before turning around and walking.

I felt the weight of my words with each step that I took. I hated myself for talking so rudely to her. I hated myself for hurting her.

But I had to do this.

"Why were you so rude to Maria?" Olivia asked, a confused expression on her face as we stood in the hallways.

"How did you know?" I asked, frowning.

"Werewolf hearing. You were shouting pretty loudly. I could hear it down the hall."

My formed a 'o' as I nod in realisation.

"Well." I sighed, "I had to. That girl knows me more than I know myself. In a span of a couple of days, she was able to sense that something was off. I need to hide the fact that Reece is my mate from her. I can't do that if I keep talking to her. She'd know that I'm hiding something and she'd fish out the information from me."

Olivia gave me a sympathetic look. "I understand. But you could have been a little bit more gentle..."

I sighed, shaking my head.
