say you won't let go❝ and you asked me to stay over
i said, i already told ya
i think that you should get some rest ❞I was sitting at the dining table, half afraid and half excited. Liam declared he was going to cook me supper fifteen minutes ago and the kitchen hadn't burnt down, so it looked promising.
"Here you go," he finally said, coming out of the kitchen.
I watched as he placed the plate of pasta in front of me. "Hey, it looks edible."
He put his on the opposite side and sat down. "I used whole grain spaghetti because you're sick."
I laughed. "I don't think that helps."
"Pretty sure it does."
I tilted my head to one side and said teasingly, "If Liam Greyson says it does, then I guess it does."
Liam's mouth curved and I tried to ignore the sudden skip in my heartbeat. "That's right," he said. "You're learning."
I rolled my eyes and continued eating.
"Why didn't you tell me you were sick?" he asked. "We could've gone back to the hotel to sleep instead of staying on the rooftop. You must have been freezing."
"It's fine. I was too tired to move anyway."
"I could carry you."
I choked on the pasta, immediately reaching for a glass of water.
Liam passed me a tissue. "Easy there. No need to get too excited."
I glared at him, wiping my mouth with the tissue. "No thank you."
He grinned. "Thought I'd offer."
"I'm going to work," I announced, standing up.
Liam stood up when I stood up, revealing his upbringing. "Work? But you just got out of the hospital."
I waved it off. "Yeah, but I feel fine now."
"I don't trust you."
"Too bad." I walked toward the bedroom and pulled out an iPad from my bag.
"Don't you ever take a break?"
"Of course I do," I answered distractedly, already immersed in my work.
"No, like really take a break." He flipped my iPad to face down and sat on the bed. "Maybe a vacation or something."
Sighing, I decided to answer him properly. It didn't seem like he would leave me alone anytime soon. "I guess I always thought I would, but I never had enough time."
There was a beat of silence as Liam seemed to be debating with himself over something. But he eventually chose not to say anything.
"Why do you work so hard?" he asked instead.
