"Stiles can I talk to you for a moment?" Derek questioned from the door way leading to the kitchen of the newly renovated Hale house, Derek had decided that dwelling in the past was no good. Together the pack helped restore the house to once again become a happy place, Lydia had decorated almost every inch of the house except the bedrooms.
Over the summer Derek and Stiles had gotten quite close, being the only responsible people in the pack house. They were sort of the parents to the teenagers. Stiles was the mother comforting them, cuddling them, helping and baking since everyone else was completely useless at it, besides Derek but he wasn't as good as Stiles. Derek was the father, he was tough and protective but just wanted the best for all of his pups.
"Of course." Stiles stood up from the couch and walked into the kitchen, pouring himself a glass of orange juice. The pack had decided that since it was Saturday they would chill before doing some training later one, they were currently eating pancakes while watching cartoons. Mornings like those were nice, Stiles loved them, just sitting around with the pack.
Derek leaned against the counter and ran a hand through his hair roughly, Stiles came to stand in front him him. Touching his arm lightly, a gentle smile on his face.
"Are you okay Der? You seem really stressed." Derek nodded ignoring the nickname, but Stiles didn't believe it.
"There's this school for supernatural beings, not to far away from here a they- Well they offered me a job to teach History." He blurted out, staring at Stiles a gauge his reaction which wasn't what Derek expected at all.
"Derek that amazing! You'd be a wonderful teacher!" Stiles smiled so big Derek feared his face might split, but it didn't.
"You really think so?" Derek asked, self-consciously rubbing the back of his neck. Stiles grabbed his hands and held them in his own, still smiling.
"I know so, your excellent with the pack. I think the job will be good but it's your decision, Derek." Stiles squeezed his hands lightly in comfort, he could tell this was a big thing for Derek and it was causing him a lot of stress.
"They offered to show me around the school and explain a little more about my job this weekend, I was wondering if you would come with me?"
"Of course I'll come with you, I fully support whatever decision you decide to make."
"Thank you Stiles." Derek sighed in gratitude, Stiles took a leap of faith and wrapped his arms around Derek's neck, pulling him into a hug that was surprisingly reciprocated.
"When do we leave?" He asked pulling away, thanking who ever would listen that Derek had hugged him back.
"Ten, so we can get there by twelve." Stiles nodded, it was around nine right then so he could shower and get changed before making lunch for the pack. The two shared another smile that made Stiles heart flutter, Derek was too surprised hearing his own heart flutter to notice, then a blushing Stiles left, walking upstairs to get ready.
Derek lingered in the kitchen for a little bit longer, he already felt more assured. He had never been one for affection, even when his family was still around, but Stiles made it feel natural. Stiles was a very affectionate person, much like the rest of the pack, always hugging people or doing puppy piles that everyone seemed to enjoy. Derek secretly liked it when Stiles hugged him and forced him to join puppy piles telling him not to be 'such a Sourwolf!' it made him feel wanted.
Derek came back to reality and walked into the lounge where the pack were watching batman, he shook his head a picked up his book, waiting for Stiles. After a while Erica spoke up, finishing her food.
"What was that about?" Erica asked, looking to Derek. "Is something wrong?"
"No, nothing's wrong. Stiles and I are going out for the weekend, we should be back Sunday night." Erica scrunched her eyebrows together. It was weird that Derek was willingly going to spend that much time with Stiles, the pack hadn't really taken notice of how close the two were growing. Except Lydia, Lydia noticed everything.
"Where are you going?"
"To town miss nosy," Stiles said walking into the room and tapping Erica on the nose while grinning. "We'll tell you about it when we get back but right now I'm going to make you hungry wolves lunch, help me Derek?" Derek nodded placing his book down and jumping up, Lydia eyed the two happily. She knew they liked each other even though the boys haven't quite figured it out themselves, but they're getting there, slowly.
Derek had tried to push the pack away once they started getting close but when he really thought about it, they were in as much danger away from him than they were with him. He was tired of being alone, and they were tired of seeing him alone.
Stiles made his way to the kitchen, Derek trailing behind him. Seemingly content to sit at the island in the middle of the kitchen and watch as Stiles cooked, a small smile on his face, one that Stiles sadly didn't notice.
Stiles made three sandwiches for each pack member and baked a batch of his famous chocolate chip cookies, Derek was almost drooling at the smell.
"Okay, lunch!" He called, the pack quickly filling into the kitchen. "Everyone grab a plate and head to the table." They did as told, Derek and Stiles sat at each end of the table, the rest of the pack between them.
"We'll see you guys Sunday evening alright, no cooking, Derek will leave money for take away's." Derek placed fifty dollars on the table, giving it to Peter who was the most responsible of the toddlers, I mean teenagers.
Stiles bid everyone goodbye, hugging each of them before he grabbed the change of clothes he had packed for himself and Derek in a little bag. The two hopped in the car and sped off, Derek felt the nerves bubble in his chest, just having Stiles close enough to breath his scent calmed him down.
Things would be okay as long as he was with Stiles and that confused him, when did he get so reliant on the hyperactive spazz of a teen.
