"i'm fucking sick of this, man," vincent muttered, running his fingertips over the roughness of his buzz-cut, "fucking sick." the bone under his right eye was burning painfully, no doubt a bruise would form on the skin. the cuts on his lip and cheek were starting to cake with dried blood.
he was a hot mess. he sure as hell felt like one too.
vincent was resting his back againt the side of the house, head in his hands. the (color)-haired girl sat closely next to him, looking at him with concern. it hurt her to see him like this: all battered and bloody. as she observed him with wandering eyes, she took note of his bruised knuckles.
the once lively party had died down in the house behind him. the reason being the brawl that happened an hour prior. if it wasn't for vincent's ex-girlfriend and her new, sorry excuse of a boyfriend, nothing bad would've went down. but said new boyfriend and ex-girlfriend decided it'd be a brilliant idea to poke fun at vincent. they crudely made comments about his past relationship with estée and his home life; both sensitive topics for the boy.
in a blink of an eye, vincent was finally punched in the mouth by his enemy. that was when everything went down south: the guy pinned vincent to the ground, wrapping his hands around his neck. the forming crowd yelled at the two of them, estée shamelessly cheering her boyfriend on.
fuckshit and ray had even attempted to coax the guy from killing vincent underneath him. it seemed to only make the situation worse. the guy began to slam him down on the floor and throw countles blows to vincent's face. though he was struggling, vincent was able to land a punch on his nose.
much to everyone's surprise, (name) was able to stop him. she pushed her way through the shaken up bystanders, wrapping her arms around the boy's neck and pulling him back. fuckshit ran to her aid with ray following behind. ray kicked the unknown boy in the stomach to subdue him. fuckshit held him down by pinning his torso, much to the protests coming from estée.
(name) pulled vincent outide and that's how the unfortunate events began. she would go back inside to get his abandoned skateboard but right now, she was more focused on comforting her best friend and letting him rant to her.
"i know how shitty it is right now - but trust me - it's not always gonna be like that. don't worry, we'll make sure you'll never have to see those fuckers again. as for your ex-girl and that asshole, you deserved someone much better anyways. don't chase someone who wouldn't do the same for you. and if you don't wanna go home, you can always crash at my place," (name) reminded, placing a hand gingerly on his knee. she knew that he'd been through hell for the past year, the least she could do was give him a warm place to sleep. if he had any of the intense nightmares he frequently had, he wouldn't be alone. she'd be there for him.
vincent sighed, "i know, babe. thank you so much. it honestly means the world to me," he removed his hand from his head and placed his palm over her hand, squeezing it.
"of course, anything for you," she smiled, pulling her hand away from the warmth he radiated. vincent looked at her questionably as she reached into the pocket of her jacket.
her facial expression appeared as though she struck gold once she found what she was looking for. (name) pulled her hand out to show the opened pack of cigarettes. the brand was vincent's favorite.
"want one?" (name) shook the box lightly.
"hell yeah," vincent nodded, pulling out a cigarette.
just as he was about to ask for a light, she produced a blackened lighter from her jeans. vincent raised the cancer stick to his lips and nodded his head in thanks when she lit it.
she lit her own and blew a soft puff of smoke. (name) almost jumped in alarm once she felt vincent resting his head on her shoulder. it wasn't necessarily bad: she just hadn't expected it.
her body tensed for a moment but she gave in, relaxing her back. from the corner of her eyes, she could see the dark clouds leaving vincent's mouth.
the two enjoyed the cool breeze and chirps of crickets. they enjoyed the presence of each other. time didn't matter to either of them. vincent still clung to (name)'s side and he didn't plan on letting go.
once the hostess of the party come outside to toss vincent's board, telling them to piss off, they knew it was time to leave. they shared a couple of laughs when they were flipped off and vincent retrieved his board off the ground.
(name) stood up from her spot to reach a hand out to the boy. his board rested under his arm and for the first time in a while, he smiled. it wasn't a fake one, but it was genuine. he was greatful she stood with him the whole time.
a mixture of emotions washed over him when (name) leaned in to kiss him on the cheek. hand and hand, they walked through the moonlight.
