It wasn't Garrith barreling toward her. This wyvern was as black as a starless sky, it's eyes golden and practically glowing. Massive wings spread out from its side, the skin translucent against the still rising sun. Claws attached to the wings opened wide, ready to swipe down if the enormous teeth didn't do their job first. Another roar exploded from within the throat of the beast, sparks of fire drifted from between its lips, extinguishing long before it touched the ground.

Siobhan grabbed her staff and rose to her feet, angling the point toward the wyvern. She took her free hand and called the ice to her fingertips. A ball of frost shot toward the Wyvern, but it harmlessly hit the beasts hide and shattered in a dust of snow. She tried again, but it was just as hopeless. There wasn't enough magic in her body to take on a beast of its size. Even her staff would sooner turn to kindling then be of any use against it.

"Fine. Come at me, let's dance." Siobhan dug her feet into the blood-covered ground and tried to strengthen her stance. Maybe if she held her ground the blade would have a chance to penetrate the rough hide. Light glinted off the sharp tip of her staff blade as she twisted it in her hands. She narrowed her eyes, starring down the wyvern.

The Wyvern opened its massive jaw, its teeth were stained, sharp, and ready for her. Still Siobhan held her ground, every bit the fool. Ice frosted the tip of her blade, stretching down toward her hand, her magic pooling through it to give her whatever slim hope she could. She opened her mouth, ready to scream her defiance. If she was going down, she was going down a warrior.

Instead, it was another voice that rang out, "No!" Wren appeared in a swell of air, his sword pointed toward the wyvern. "Don't harm her!"

"You moron," Siobhan shouted.

The Wyvern pulled back, it's wings flapping toward them, knocking both Siobhan and Wren to the ground. She growled when she looked up expecting the wyvern to chop down and have them both for breakfast.

But it didn't.

It continued to hover in the air before its legs landed. The wings touched the ground when its front claws held it upright. The giant head tilted downward, a thin layer of skin spread out from its jaw like cloth, twittering with the roar escaping from its throat. Warm breath swept past both Siobhan and Wren. Wren stood up in front of Siobhan, holding his sword outward with both hands. He was surprisingly calm, his stance firm. He raised his sword and twisted his foot, Siobhan recognized the readying stance well. She pulled herself from the blood stained ground and joined his stance, but the Wyvern simply stood there, starring at them both.

"Not to be ungrateful, but why aren't we wyvern chow right now?" Wren asked without looking at her.

The wyvern tilted its head to one side, golden eyes blinking as it stared at Wren. Siobhan furrowed her brow, watching the beast closely. Wren raised his sword higher as if he were ready to attempt to chop of the creature's head. She had no answer for him. They both should've been deep in the belly of the beast by then.

"Because you told him not to." Jaeda skipped over one of the prone bodies lying on the ground, shaking blood off their clawed fingers. "Human blood is sticky."

"What do you mean because I told him not to?"

Jaeda shrugged. "With all due respect, I don't think this is the time to discuss that. Send your new pet into battle and be done with it."

The wyvern reared on its hind legs, roaring into the sky. Fire exploded from within its mouth, spreading over them in a domed shelter until it ignited on the ground and formed a ring of fire separating them from the battle.

Jaeda chuckled. "I stand corrected. I guess we do have time to discuss it."

Wren shook his head. "Will someone please tell me what is happening right now?"
